Optical means laser. light. Now more mouses are commonly used are optical. Which means that the old mouse as you know has a ball in the middle at the bottom to move, but an optical mouse is a mouse without a ball but uses a laser or light. Which makes it lighter, better and more reliable in gaming situations.

It means that instead of using a rolly ball on the bottom to make the pointer move, it uses a red light. Sorry that I don't know the technical terms, but I HIGHLY reccommend an optical mouse. It's faster, more accurate, and you don't need a mousepad! My favorite part is that you never have to clean hair/dust/etc out of the inside of the mouse in order to get it to work better! (Spend the 10 bucks and BUY IT!!!!)
