Shutdown problems in Windows XP are most commonly caused by what is know in computer circles as legacy hardware - old technology components and peripherals that are not Plug and Play (PnP) devices - and software-compatibility issues.
If your computer was shutting down, but all of a sudden it won't shut down properly, or it restarts during the shutdown, if you installed any new software or drivers, remove the software via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, or use the Roll Back Driver feature in the Device Manager (right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and find the device, double-click on its entry and open its Driver tab) to restore the old driver. If you discover that a driver is the cause of the problem, try downloading and installing the latest driver for the device from its manufacturer's site. If you installed any new hardware immediately before the problem occurred, obtain the latest driver file available for it in the same way. If the device still causes the problem with the latest driver installed, try a different make and model.

When you standby a computer/laptop it does not restart when you move the mouse / hit they keyboard! It just comes on again! Go to the control panel and check the power saving settings! If this does not work contact the shop where you purchased your computer from!

Might be hibernating. I've always found standby, hibernate and the like a pain in the ar**, and I've set mine never to go there. Have a look in Start - Control Panel - Performance & Maintenance - Power Options.

Yes I know why, unlike the screen saver which when you move the mouse or press a key on your keyboard the screen comes back, and when your computer is in standby mode you will have to press the power button/switch to make the computer come alive again, this is normal and nothing is wrong with your computer so please don't worry,
to change this simply,
1. click start
2. click control panel
3. double click power option
4. make sure that the turn of monitor is set to never shut down
5. make sure that the turn of hard disk is set to never shut down
6. make sure that system standby is set to never shut down
7. make sure that system hibernates is set to never shut down
all these can be set to suit the user needs.

in many circumstances the fan works at the same time as it senses develop in temperature. once you shutdown and restart the temperature in many circumstances receives down. even although if you're speaking about a private computer, then there in many circumstances are 2 followers, one for the flexibility furnish and the different for the Processor, they are both in many circumstances operating, basically the processor's one p.c. receives severe - no matter if that is wise one - to develop the cooling of the processor. Tip: If the processor's fan quickens as said, verify the memory actual elements used and study it with the accessible one, it may be fed on too a lot so the processor is busy in a procedure or extra. to attempt this open the pastime manager with the help of Clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del

I had the same problem too! I am really sure it has something to do with the power settings...after I put mine to never turn off and my monitor to never shut off and such, I haven't experience the problem again...anyways, the fastest solution is to just hold onto the power button of your pc for 10 or more seconds until it shuts down and power it back up.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
