First of all this has nothing to do with Memory in computer terms.

Second try to hit enter,.. with nothing typed at all for password.

Next try password type out the word and hit enter,...

... then call them if those don't work.

Some comps require a Password because of somethings on them so people set the password to nothing at all,.. you just hit enter or whatever to submit.

The opassword is likely a startup password being enforced by the bios (not the hard drive as another anser states).
A quick way to clear the password, and this shoudl work in 99% of motherboards is to remove the battery from the motherboard.

Unplug the computer and ground yourself before toucing the motherboard.
look at the board, you should see a battery on it, it will look like a large watch battery.
Remove the batter (they usually just snap in or are held in place with a clip) wait 30 seconds, replace the battery, put the cover back on, plug it in and start it up,
This should remove the passward.

The simplest solution would be to ask the husband's friend to enter the password then clear it. If you can't do that, then just take out the hard drive and put in a new one.
