It sounds fine when I log off or turn it off, but on start up it sounds warped and static-y. Everything else seems to be working fine on my Dell Dimension B110.

u could go to device manager and try uninstalling the sound device and then reboot and let windows redetect it .. that may straighten it out .... personally i would go to the sound/audio devices in control panel then the sounds tab and select no sounds for windows sound scheme ... windows will load faster if it doesnt have to fart around loading the sound driver first anyway ....

1. It may be that the initial sound comes from the el cheapo speaker in the computer itself. This is a 99 cent item (probably $3.95 at Radio Shack but they have it!). I think this is an 8Ohm 2" speaker, 12VDC with two wires.
2. The file that makes the sound when the computer starts may be damaged. The way to determine that is to change it.
START/ Settings/Control Panel/Sounds/Sounds
from this panel, you can change the sounds. If you change the sound and it is still crappy, I suspect the speaker in the computer.
If you find it is not the cheapo speaker in the computer, I do not know what is could be, especailly because the other sounds work OK through the external speakers.
