I'm going to add to the growing list of people recommending that you buy a Mac. :)
It is definitely better for creative work than Windows; I make music, have done it on both Windows XP and Mac OS X and there is absolutely no question.
There is a TON of software out there for the Mac platform, contrary to what many (out-of-the-loop?) people might say. Look in the sources for this answer for some links to Mac software sites. In fact, I've found that the overall quality (in aesthetics and usability) of Mac software is better than what you'll find for Windows.
Mac OS X is, without a doubt, safer and more secure than Windows, mainly for two reasons:
• OS X is UNIX-based, which inherently makes it more stable and secure, and
• the Mac user base is still very small compared to that of Windows, so hackers and the like don't really see any point in attacking such a small group.
That being said, if you buy one of the new Intel-based Macs (they're even available refurbished at this point), you can even install Windows on the side for those one or two apps that you just can't find for OS X. :P
A Mac is a very good investment, and one you will not regret making.

extra promotion, a superior promotion and marketing crew, user-friendly layout, homogeneity. pc is basically any computing gadget not a mac, and evidently they're going to run the gamut in high quality/cost/layout. hence the basically element that Macs extremely have over each pc is they could run Apple proprietary software. there is also an image element that i'm noticing with Macs. by way of their branding and promotion Macs are referred to as "cooler" than their pc counterpart particularly subcultures. i'm considering a lot of you positioned down 'virus loose' as between the important execs of a mac. That besides the indisputable fact that has to do with the Unix depending operating equipment run on the Mac extremely than the Mac itself. If pc consumers are so vulnerable, they could also get a scourge loose operating equipment in between the numerous Linux flavors.

Hello ontherideofmylife,
A Mac is a perfect set up for your creative needs, as well as e-mail, IM, photos and movies. I recommend you going to your local Macintosh dealer and getting your hands on the Mac OS X and see for yourself how much easier it is to use the Mac.
I'm a printer and love using inDesign for DTP and Adobe Illustrator for structured drawing.. Instead of Photoshop, I use a shareware program called GraphicsConverter. There's IM programs for just about every server around, but I like using a freeware program called Adium that connects to all of the different IM servers at once.
You might be able to find a Mac users group in your area, and they would be happy to show you why you never get computer viruses on the Mac like you can on Windows PCs.
As far as getting a full-warranty, reconditioned Mac, I recommend going to PowerMax, here:

Best of luck to you in your search for a Macintosh. Take care.

Get a Mac. You won't regret it. The price difference is not large, and it is worth it. Macs are more secure and stable than Windows boxes (almost no viruses or system crashes), and in addition they are easier to use. Mac OS is much better designed than Windows in almost every respect.
You can safely ignore people who claim that there's not much Mac software out there -- this is simply not true. There's plenty of Mac software, much of it free.
For more information, see http://www.apple.com/support/switch101 or e-mail me at marnen AT marnen DOT org. Good luck!

Have you ever used a MAC before? If you are proficient with a PC, I would get a PC. It's not that MAC's are bad, but most experianced MAC users are forgetting the amount of time it took them to be proficient on a MAC. It will take you the same amount of time which could be weeks, months, etc...
