i have a motherboard and a stick of 512 ddr ram. i am planning to upgrade the motherboard, and the one that i am planning on getting a "ASROCK CONROE945G S775", it says that it supports dual channel ddr2, does this mean that i will have to buy a new ram stick that is ddr2, or will the ddr ram that i allready have work with it?

no, definitely not. ddr and ddr2 ram sticks aren't pin compatible (ddr is 184 pin, ddr2 is 240 pin). in case you get this new mobo, you also have to get new ram.

You should try to get RAM that matches your existing memory. Check the motherboard manufacturer for their recommendations. NOT ALL RAM is the same.
