Compressed canned air purchased at almost any department store that sells computer related equipment and supplies, roughly $8, there is a fan situated probably at the back of your computer case, the slots will be shaped in a round circle most likely...you'll want to use the air on this area, small burst rather than a steady stream.
To open your system is a little difficult to say given that I don't know if it is reasonably new or not. Some cases open at the back by unscrewing several screws around the edge of the case.
Other systems have a panel on the side that slips off, others still have the side panel that must be screwed off...depends.
Using the compressed air inside the computer you want to do so carefully...ensure that your system is turned off...completely, and unplugged before you attempt to open it up. ALWAYS ground yourself before touching anything inside the system...this is done by touching any steel part (the frame of the computer which is normally a silver colored steel works fine for this) with two or three fingers for a few seconds. If you are unsure about this procedure ask someone who is familiar with these things.
As for the dusty hard drive it may be the power supply you are speaking of as a hard drive isn't all that big.
Canned air should be used on the system approx every 3-6 months depending on the accumulation your home produces. A very dusty system can run hot and burn out the CPU fan thus the CPU which generates and activates your system, as well as the auxilary fans...power supply can also suffer.
Good luck

I'm not sure what you're refering to. The thing that starts the computer (with a fan perhaps?) is probably the Power Source. The thing that stores the information needed for the computer to run is the hard drive.
In any case, if you're just going to clean the surface dust/dirt off then the first thin you need to do is open the case up. It is important to do this in a static free environment and that you are also free from static (so ground yourself by wearing metal or holding onto a metal screwdriver or something). Once the case is open, most of the components are sensative to electrical shocks from static and may cause irreperable harm to your computer.
The actual cleaning of the inside can be done with an air compressor or a can of compressed air (which can be purchased from most computer stores and even Costco). It can also be done with a vaccuum provided that you're careful not to damage anything with the hose.

Using compressed air is probably the simplest, start from the back and work your way to the front of the computer, blowing dust from fan blades, chips, and the motherboard. When using compressed air remember to always hold it in the upright position otherwise chemical propellants may blow out of the container on to the circuits. Use caution in between the PC cards in the rear of the computer. Blow the dust out of the case. When cleaning cooling fans with compressed air prevent them from spinning. This helps prevent dust from being forced into the bearings, shortening their life. You can also enlist the aid of a small paint brush [or toothbrush] to remove the coat of dust from the components. Be careful not to loosen or snag any wires leading to or from the motherboard. If you USE CAUTION and PROCEED SLOWLY, you should not encounter any problems in your cleaning efforts. As has been suggested, take your computer or component to a local computer shop for cleaning if you feel uncomfortable with doing it yourself.

I'm not really sure what you mean.... but if it's means the processor, i kinda know how to clean the dust inside the processor...
..so, the tools you need only screwdriver that match the screw on your processor (mine have a very large and thick screw so i just need to turn it out)... and the other one is an old toothbrush... i don't like to use any kinds of air pressure can or chemical since I'm just too afraid to break any sensitive component inside...so, the old toothbrush kinda help since you can control how much pressure you want to make it clean....
.. i only open the processor and clean the inside from the dusty motherboard, hard drive, or anything inside... just makes sure that you do that outside so the dust don't make a mess on your room... ;)
but anyway.... if it's not the answer that you looking for...so, just ignore my answer... ;)...
have fun...

u can clean as u like
but
As I am a comp H/W engg pls use the perfect ESD while touching the parts inside the PC otherwise ur comp will fall on sick
if u dont know about ESD means pls consult some H/W engg
or simply u can buy a wrist band friom comp h/w shop and put it in ur hand and connect it to ur pc cabinet and connect the power cable but dont switch on the power even on the main switch boad
bcos our body is conductive part and due to friction our body will produce some electro static voltage if it pass on the component of ur pc then im sure it will give intermident problem,
dont worry u wont get any shock by connecting the power cable but be sure pls switch OFF the main power supply of the Switch board.......
All the best........................................

Yep, you can unscrew the side of it, usually the left side as you look at the front, and use one of those compressed air cans to blow all the junk out of it. You can't really hurt your computer with a can of air, so blow all around until its clean. Blow into the fans on the top backside of your computer where the power supply is too.
