You can use System in Control Panel to do the following:
View and change settings that control how your computer uses memory and finds certain information.
Find information about hardware and device properties, as well as configure hardware profiles.
Report system and program errors to Microsoft when they occur.
You can change performance options that control how programs use memory, including paging file size, or environment variables that tell your computer where to find some types of information. Startup and recovery options indicate which operating system your computer uses when it starts and which actions it performs if the system stops unexpectedly.
Information about hardware and devices is also available in System. Use the Add Hardware Wizard to install, uninstall, or configure certain types of hardware. Device Manager shows you which devices are installed on your computer and allows you to change device properties. You can also create hardware profiles for different hardware configurations.
You can report system and program errors to Microsoft so they can track and address the errors.
You must be logged on as an administrator to the local computer or have appropriate network privileges to make certain changes in System.

Well would need to know a bit more about your machine. Bu tyou might check and see if all your ram chips are in the sockets good. Try turning off some of the programs running in the back ground.
But it could mean you just plain old need a larger computer. May not have enough memory.

FOR VIRTUAL MEMORY CHANGE
Follow this:
1. Start> RIGHT click MyComputer > Properties >
2. tab for Advanced > frame for Performance > click button Settings
3. window Performance Options > Frame for Virtual memory > click button Change >
4. window Virtual Memory > Frame Paging File >
Before changing the paging file size note the Registry size frame amount, and subtract the amount you've set aside for Maximum registry size, from the free Drive space amount.
You can set your paging file up to the difference.
Example:
Minimum 1000
Maximum 4000
5. click OK
6. Restart your pc

Just relax, Windows will adjust your virtual memory to 3 GB. It will take up 3GB of disk space, so if you're deathly short on disk space, it may not work.
A game that uses 3 GB virtual may perform very poorly if you are short on physical memory. Unfortunately, windows cannot do much about that, you may have to buy more if you have performance problems.

Your computer is politely telling you that you have alzheimer's.
Go have a Christmas drink and reboot.
Your memory will improve and the computer will forget the question it asked. If it doesn't, give it it's last rights and type Format C:

Maybe it is a very old game, made for "DOS." If it is, try using a utility named "Dosbox" to run the game.

The hard drive may have too much on it. You may have to delete some programs, or get a bigger hard drive.
