My husband and I have been living on his father and stepmother's property next door to them for a little over two years now. We're saving up money to buy some land or start renting a place of our own. He lived here before so they didn't seem to mind it until about three months after I moved in. She started acting strange. She went from really friendly to really stiff around me. I don't know what I did and didn't want to make it worse so I stopped going over to their house. I stopped talking to them because I didn't want to be an annoyance so I just stayed out of their way for a year or so. It never seemed to bother them until about three months ago when I got a letter from her. She went on and on about how awful I am as a person, how stiff and cold I am. She said I act like I am above her. I was just trying to stay out of their way. No matter what I do she has a problem with it. I'd move away but this isn't financially possible at the moment. What should I do or say to her?

It's for my friend's sister and honestly, we're not close at all. (I mean the sister) She graduated from high school and I just wanted to get her a gift certificate. Where is an appropriate place and how much should it be. (Oh, my friend's birthday was a couple of days ago and I got her a $30 gift certificate. Would it matter if the amount is smaller?)

1) Her room is right above mine. Her hairdryer wakes me up every morning. She also likes to sing but she is an awful singer and I can hear it just as loud as my own music through the ceiling.

2) She talks very loudly on the phone and likes to shriek. She also has phone sex, so I can hear her, um, sounds. If you know what I mean.

3) She always comes down here, sometimes she lets her kid come down here alone. The upstairs is where SHE lives. She doesn't even own the house, she just rents it.

4) She smokes a lot and since her window is above mine, she smokes right above out her window so the smell goes through mine and stinks up the room.

I am sorry to rant but should I say something or just keep my earplugs in 24/7 and stock up on the Febreeze? She is actually really nice, but I just would appreciate some peace and quiet and also some fresh air once in awhile.

How do you cope with a neighbor who likes to do things a little bit different than I do (I guess). Last week we got in a pretty heated argument because I said something about his dog constantly coming over in my yard to take a crap. Now he's got a campfire burning in his backyard with the smoke (smell) filling our house up (again). 2 weeks ago they were playing basketball outside at two in the morning. I'm a patient man, but I'm running thin. How rude and inconsiderate can you get!!! We do plan to move in the not too distant future......but in the meantime, what can I do?? Oh yeah, by the way.....I own my home, and they rent. Thanks!

Are they expecting a tip?

I am currently at work at my father's firm and the janitor's always say hello to me. why?

I don't want to talk to them, is there someone I can talk to about this? My father doesn't own the building, just the business here in Washington DC on the 39th floor.

...and I want to do the nice, soon-to-be son-in-law thing. I've been invited, along with my girlfriend, over to her parent's house for supper. My girlfriend is giving her mom her birthday present early, because of other arrangements happening in their schedules.

My question is, should I get my girlfriend's mom something? I'm thinking a card, but is this even necessary, or in demonstration of good taste / etiquette?

I have a neigbour that is constantly opening and slamming their closets and drawers. When I slam my own closets in retaliation they seem to calm down and then after week it starts again. I try my best to ignore it... Mon-Sat I tell myself its no big deal cuz I have to wake up for work anyway(even through I really am annoyed and am just trying to make the best of it) but yesterday I was woken up at 6:30am on a Sunday. I tried to talk to them at that moment but they did not open the door, I wrote a very polite letter asking them to be careful with their doors and drawers but I don't think they care.

If you knew that your neighbour was disturbed by such a minor thing such as slamming doors, would you try to make it better or just tell them to #$@! off and continue your behaviour. I'm willing to talk to them and compromise such as no slamming before 10am or after 11pm.

Should I expect some consideration or should I just stop caring and start making them miserable too?

because a lot of times, he just doesn't have a clue. he can be really rude and disrespectful and immature and childish, and just clueless. he annoys everyone around him. i told him this (not in a mean way, but respectfully) and he was a little upset, but admitted he wanted to fix that and change.

how can i help him change to be more respectful, mature, manly, and polite? are there any books out there?

I put gas cap in car while pumping gas and it didn't stop on its own, spilling $18 of gas, REIMBURSED?

I was pumping gas...I ALWAYS put my gas cap in the pump so I can go inside the store and the gas continues to pump...

well yesterday, the pump DIDN'T stop and there was a HUGE gas spill (about 6 gallons worth -$18 -spilled on the ground).

I feel that it was a malfunction at the pump, and that I should be reimbursed the $18 worth ... how do I go about getting this?

Now this guy at the pump next to me was YELLING at me telling me what I did was a crime and they would have to call the hazmat team. I told him I do this all the time...the gas station attendent told me to leave.

Did I do something wrong???

I feel that I should be REIMBURSED $18 and then some other form of reimbursement for the embarrasement and humiliation the guy next to me tried to inflict on me... talk about a lack of manners!

I live in apartments. My building has four units. Im in between two people, who both got dogs the same time. At first they kept up on it...This weekend I was very frustrated that they had left so much dog poop outside. And no clue on who's it is. They are related by marriage, so its unsure when one blames the other. The girl my age Ive said something to about the poop in the past - She said her dog rarely goes out. (which I belive cuz I the dog never comes out, and she has compalined about cleaning up after the dog) The lady (girl dads, wife) She has blunted stated that the poop out side is not hers...But she lets her dog go out all the time, alone sometimes.....
I dont wanna call the manager...They will know its me probably...How should I go about this? (Other than picking up the poop and dividing it up evenly and leaving at their doorstep, LMAO!)

OK, so I'm waiting outside this motel to get a room, and it's a cheap motel, and I'm wearing a dress so I'm not really upset about being mistaken for a prostitute. What I'm upset about is that I go back to my boyfriend, tell him what happened, and say "Do I look like a whore?" I don't think I do, obviously - but is it so wrong to expect him to just say "No"? Did he have to consider it and then point out various things that might have led to the assumption? Do I have a right to be upset with him?

I have to be at work in a little over an hour. It is pouring down rain and the streets are flooding in my area. I have no car so I have to walk a block to the unsheltered busstop, waiting till the bus comes (half the time it is late) and then walk 2 blocks from the stop to my job. I know I am going to get soaked and it would make sense to wear some other clothes and maybe flipflops since I have to walk through water and then change into my uniform in the store bathroom, HOWEVER my boss has a strict policy that we have to come in the door already dressed for work or we are sent home. Of course she has a mercedes so she isn't walking in the water like I am. The is no place to change before going into work because the surrounding businesses are a fancy restaraunt, a couple eye doctors offices and some other private businesses, thus no place to change but at my store. I know I am going to be misserable all day standing around in wet shoes and clothes (and no I can't take off my shoes.

Hi - I work in an office above a barber's shop and the floor is very thin. The barber listens to his music very loud and it has a repetitive beat, which vibrates through the floor and my desk and into my head, making it near impossible to concentrate. It goes on all day and he often repeats the same songs, sometimes he sings along.

I love my job but it's making me so miserable, most days I put up with it but when I'm tired and have a lot to do I don't see why I should. I asked him to turn it down once before but it only lasted ten minutes and the men that work here seem to think he's a wonderful guy, so won't back me up (they don't have to work directly over his shop). No-one seems to understand and I'm at the end of my tether.

Any suggestions as to how I can persuade him or get my revenge??? I'd love to cut his power off but can't work out how. I'm not lowering myself to any sort of bribing.

I live in a townhouse and every weekend the neighbors next door and the ones 2 doors down get drunk and sit outside. it wouldnt be so bad except for the fact that they talk loud and every outher word in their conversation is f--k. today he neighbor on the outher side of me. her little boy let go of his baloon, a guy over there caught it. the little boy started to walk over to him to get it and the man saw this, then he let the baloon go. they let their cildren just come and take hings from people patios. hoses, toys ect... then if our kids go anywher near their stuff they stick their heads out the door and yell get away. do you think these people are intentanally rude or are they just oblivious and so self centered that they feel they can do whatever they want? would you say something or would you just contine to smile and say hello only to not get a response?

i am an ecclectic, eccentric, unique, & creative individual when it comes to my shopping habits, and the way i decorate my house!! believe me, i'm not bragging!!!! i am just trying to explain myself!!! i like to shop at places like thrift stores, goodwill, garage sales. etc. !!! not because i'm cheap, because i like unique & different things, older things!!! i also take a keen interest in other people's likes & dislikes!!! i love to go over their house to get a sense of their personality!!! so, sometimes, when i'm shopping at my favorite places, i find something that i know someone will love!! if i have the means, i buy it for them!!!! i never buy ANYTHING that is in bad condition!!! i would never insult my friends that way!! now, here's, the thing: they will ask me where i got it from!!! i get all nervous about it, and usually lie to them, because i am afraid they will say that they don't want it, or think that i'm cheap, and won't recognize the thought behind it!!! am i wrong?, right?
