My friend went on an interview. In the middle of the interview, my friend and the interviewer "got into it" (verbally). My friend told me that the interviewer got sarcastic with him when asking some questions and did not take his answers seriously. What is the best way to handle someone like this?

"Proper" would mean keeping your cool under pressure. Maybe the interviewer was pushing your friend's buttons to see his tolerance level? If not, the point remains: it's your friend who needs the job NOT the interviewer.

I wish him all the best on the NEXT interview. I guarantee this one's a done deal.

Once you feel you are not going to get the job because of the attitude of the person doing the interview, you may as well leave. However, you still have one last shot at the guy.

Stand up. Reach across and pick your application off the desk in front of the interviewer. Say, "Clearly this company is not worthy of me. I shall continue my efforts for employment with your competitor and I am withdrawing my application." Then walk out with the application in hand.

There is nothing that bugs an employment officer more than to lose paperwork. He will also be unable to write any derogatory comments on your application.

Get up and walk out. You don't want to be involved with an organization which would hand over the responsibility of interviewing to a total jerk.

If that is considered appropriate business practice during an interview, day to day dealings with the company are likely a nightmare.

Look for someone else to work for. There's a time and place for everything and you need to know whether orders from your future boss are for real or if he's going to be sarcastic. I like a boss with humor myself, but I personally would want a boss who knows when to be serious, and during an interview is such a time.

It depends on whether you want the job or not. If your friend got 'into it' with the interviewer, I guarantee the job is lost. Sometimes you take it ....alot of it....if you want a job...or want to keep a job. So.....that's life.

I would say, "excuse me" and walk right out. I wouldn't want to work for people with that kind of behavior. More importantly, don't lower yourself to their level of behavior.

Say, "I beg you pardon" while staring straight into the eyes.
