Why is violence so acceptable but sex and nudity is still so taboo ? It's no problem to have violent movies and cartoons ect ect but nudity is so frowned upon.
Does it say something about us as a culture and society ?

I know I will be shot down in flames for this one. However, it amazes me how their and there, weight and wait etc., etc., are confused - I know the teaching profession takes a battering but if this is how we prepare the next generation for business then I wonder how English can survive.

Last night I had a heated disagreement with my girlfreind because she insisted that I was displaying bad manners by drinking a glass of water while eating dinner at our home. This really surprised me as I had never heard of this before. The only two reasons she provided for this was that it promoted lazy chewing and was bad for diggestion.

A question of proper manners: Is it more polite to kneel down when talking to little people, or bend over slightly, or just tilt your head...? I want to accommodate without seeming condescending. Has anyone here ever encountered this social dilemma?

I need to write an e-mail regarding a scholarship to the head of an office at a school I hope to attend, so I want to sound as professional as possible. However, I do not know if the contact person is a Ms. or Mrs. or Dr. What is the proper way to start my letter under these circumstances? My boyfriend suggested I start with "Dear Madam", but somehow that seems a bit too proper and impersonal to me. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Lately I feel anxious to leave my home. I feel targeted by people. They always seem to either stare at me in a strange manner, smirk, or seem bothered when i ask a question. It seems that with women they always respond in a very rude way , as if to make me feel bad, or mumble like they really don't care to be bothered by me. I try and try to maybe search within myself for the problem with me or the solution to this very stressful situation. Please help!

Okay i was talking to this guy and I asked him what he finds attractive in a women.he said "a woman who is well fit, take care of herself, nice slim body 'head strong', loves to have a good time but know when to be serious." and I asked him "do u really mean a nice slim body?" and he answered "yeah I do.I like to be with a woman who can turn heads and is in good shape" so I sat there for a while and thought about some of the girls he dated...and they were all over weight or obeast. so i asked him "well why are u so drawn to big women if you're SO attracted to the 'slim bodies'?" and his answer was out of this world. can't believe this guy. He said "b/c big women have low self-esteem and its easy to figure out what they wanna hear...if u tell them what they want to hear they'll do anything for u, so I take advantage of that..."
MEN and WOMEN is this true that some ppl date others with low self worth b/c they'll do anything to keep someone? Have u ever done this? Would u do this?

I'm travelling to a wedding next week, and it's costing me about $600 to get there. I don't want to show up empty handed, but really, does anyone expect a gift from out-of-towners who are already out of pocket? Or does anyone have good, inexpensive suggestions for a gift that don't look completely tacky? Thanks!

I just started (3 mths) as a mid-level manager. There is drama between my boss and my subordinate. I think it's a personal issue because I don't see anything bad about the subordinates work product or performance. In fact, I find him a very efficient and dedicated employee. I am witnessing my boss do things to sabotage the subordinate and I don't think its fair. Any suggestions on how I should handle this situation? Should I say something to the boss? The subordinate? If my boss is treating the subordinate like this, I can't imagine how I would be treated if I tried to stop my boss' unfairness toward the subordinate. Touchy situation here but need some advice please.
