It depends on who has given it and the manner in which it was given. If it is offered by someone whose opinion I respect, I'll think about what they have said. If I feel that someone is just trying to insult or hurt me, I generally try to ignore it--and them from then on.

I find, from past experience, that most criticism comes from "know it all people". Most of what those people say has little meaning, cause they just like to sound opinionated. But if I'm in a learning setting, and I have a instructor, or someone who obviously know what he/she is talking about, I will take the criticism with gratitude. I guess just think out what the person is criticizing you on, and if it seems logical, accept it, and be thankful you now have new knowledge.

I think over it with a cool mind to examine whether it carries any weight or substance .I examine whether it is a serious one or one made with no basis. If I find something to learn from the criticism,I accept it with good grace. I try to find out the motive of the critic. I ignore all baseless criticism made with ulterior motives.

I usually listen to what's being said and go home and really think about it. I honestly will weigh it in my head as to what I can do to change it or if it was really validated.
