that was rude of them. but what's done is done. you can try and dye the dresses a different color or you can add some colored accesories like shawls or something, or you can make them return the dresses and get new ones (maybe offer to pay). they may be mad, but they're your sisters, they'll forgive you.

Unfortunately, if they paid for the dresses, you cannot really ask them to take them back. All you can do is ask them to wear something else.
You *could* say that you do not wish them to buy something else, just wear their best clothes on the day. This can work well, my sister did this (she did not have the money to pay for bridesmaids' dresses) and her bridesmaids wore their nicest clothes and looked great.
If you PAID for the dresses, thank them for their great shopping skill and say that the discount they got means you now have the money to have the dresses professional dyed in their choice of colour.
Let them know that it means a lot to you to wear white as you wish to have a traditional wedding, and that means the bridesmaids wear a different colour.
Most drycleaners can offer professional dyeing services which are excellent and virtually undetectable, but it does take some time so get the dresses to them as quickly as possible. If the drycleaner does not do this service, ask them to recommend a firm that does. It is NOT cheap, but you have saved a lot on the dresses.
If your friends don't like that idea, say that you are sorry, and they are welcome to come to the wedding as guests but that three women in white will look like three brides, which is not what you want for your big day.
Then go ahead with maybe just a flower girl. Your mum or sisters can always help you get dressed and so on on the day, you don't need the help of friends who think your wedding just means a chance for them to have a new dress!
Best wishes and good luck with your wedding :-)

The bridesmaids buy their own dresses. This is one of the responsibilities they agree to take care of when they are agreeing to be a bridesmaid in your wedding. You should take them bridesmaid dress shopping with you, of course, and try and find a reasonable budget with them, as a considerate bride. It is very unique of you to allow them to pick their own dresses, but you may want for them all to shop in the same store. It is nice that you want their dresses to be individual to them, but by letting them run off and pick what they want on their own you run the risk of their colour shades being very different from the shade of green or orange for your wedding. An idea might be to shop with all of them at once, in a bridal store, and allow them to pick out different styles of dresses, while you are there to make sure the shades are at least all the same. This way it will look a little less mismatched standing up at the alter.

I understand what you are saying BUT it is your fault. It is your wedding day so you should have specified the color of the dresses for them. Or given them certain colors to choose from. They might not have known only the bride wears white. I have seen some idiot mothers of the bride or groom wear white.
Since they got these dresses for 90% off they couldn't have cost much. You pay them for the dresses & send them back out again with better direction or go with them.

It is your wedding! You tell them again you want them to be in different colors, you're the bride and really they should have thought of that, I mean it's a wedding!! Maybe give them a color guide, something you might tie into the wedding around you (decorations, flowers etc). When it's their turn, they can wear white :)

Tell them they may keep the dresses, since they can't return them, but they shouldn't wear them to your wedding. Surely, they can find another ocassion to wear them to. And since they got such a great deal, they're obviously not out a lot of money for them... so they should go out and buy another dress for your wedding! Stay your ground on this one. It's YOUR Special Day... they can plan and pick their dress for their Special Day when it's their turn.
Good luck!

Guess this is just one more reason why the bridesmaids shouldn't be made to buy their own dresses. If they like the cut, style and fit of the dresses, why don't you offer to pay to get them dyed a different color?

That is awful. How dumb are they? I don't care if they were for free, they need to return them. Only the bride wear white on her wedding day. If they don't do it, you need 2 different bridesmaids. Good luck on your wedding day!!!!

It sounds to me like they were working off a budget that is very tight. perhaps you should offer to pay a portion of the cost to get a different color, and realize that letting someone choose for themselves usually means you have to accept that choice
