...when it comes to interacting with people, do you find that, when problems/disagreements occur, you work things out more readily or do you find that you put up with less malarky & therefore cut out people who bring you down?

She is an senior staff member who moved into the room next to mine about 2 weeks after I got my room. It's a YWCA, by the way, not an apartment, so its really more of a boarding house. I have lived with this for years, and it's uncomfortable for me since for a long time, the smell really wasn't geting into my room. Well, now it is, and in a BIG way! I resent having to move out due to this; I have come to see this place as home. The YWCA started renting me this room way back in 2001 after I exited their domestic violence shelter. This lady has a bum hip and I love her to death--she truly is the sweetest person you could ever meet--but the stench is getting on my clothes, and keeping me awake. I'd burn a candle, but that's not allowed, and the fear of fire in me is strong. So geezz...what can I do...I have no car, & work nights, so moving would be a nightmare, not to mention that the town I'm writing from IS a nightmare--so I'm afraid to move out. I feel so trapped right now.

Just so frustrated that i give so much to people.I'm not perfect and have many flaws, but the onl thing i get in return sometimes is slandering people jumping down my throat, and if i have legitimate skills or ability in something people doubt it.There;'s times where i've rubbed people wrong like everyone else, but i only respond when someone is blatantly malicious towards me.Don't know what to do at times, which is why i prefer being a loner. But it just hurts so much because i've been through so much in my life(legitimate hard experiences)and it seems that no mater how hard i try to be a good person with strong values and integrity,it just seems to backfire.I just feel like withdrawing myself at times which is what i do,and seem to always havemy guard up.It's frustrating for me right now,and maybe i'm taking things too too seriously, but, again it just seems like i can't win with people.

My ex boyfriend's father just died. We did not end our relationship on speaking terms. Is it appropriate to send a sympathy card? I knew his dad and he was always very nice to me.

so i have a problem.... people have told me (kindly) that I should think about the way I say things to people. i think they mean this in a way that sometimes what I say sounds more blunt, harsh or rude than it should. I've never really noticed this but I would say that sometimes I do have a know bullshit approach to things (which isn't a bad thing) and I can be highly strung (which is a bad thing). I am a junior in my office and sometimes I worry that what I say to more senior members of staff looks rude when I really don't mean it to be. I am also of the opinion that within the workplace it is not your position on the career ladder that earns you respect but simply how much respect you have for others, but I don't think this comes across in the way I speak to people and I always considered myself as very polite- and have been told I am.

Please could you give me some tips on communicating as I don't want to let myself down in anyway.

Thank you!

Please can i get a general consencus on this? I am a 20-something female who has a handful of close male friends. They are no more than friends - it's all completely platonic. My friends tend to be mostly male. I am outgoing and very social and a bit of a tomboy.

If on a night out or visiting them (as they may live a distance away), it is more convenient to stay over at their house, they will offer me a bed for the night. Sometimes, I may have to share a room with them as they don't have any spare guest rooms. However, I will always be in my own bed and they will be in theirs.

Is this generally deemed as acceptable? Only I have been told that it would be OK as long as I was in a separate room. I have been told that it is totally not acceptable to sleep in the same room, even if it's in a separate bed and happens very occasionally.

I have been doing this my whole life and now this has completely upset me as I can't see what I am doing wrong.

Please help. x

I just came back from a trip to Wal Mart where a group of men made "barking" noises at me while I was walking to the door, I'm assuming to make the point that to them I am ugly as a dog. This is the third time this year this has happened to me in different places (once was some people making whistling noises, the "come here, dog" kind). I get rude comments/looks made about my appearence here and there, too.

I am short and heavyset, but not morbidly obese, and I can say with 100% honesty that I put a lot of effort into looking clean, neat, and current with my clothing, accessories, and hair. I also try to appear confident and "normal", so just don't get why this is happening to me so often--hell, there could be people that are 500+ lbs or dressed in raggedy, dirty clothes, but for some reason I always seem to get the rude remarks.

If a person doesn't think that someone is attractive in their book, why can't they just keep their mouths shut and say NOTHING?? Help me figure this out!!

My boyfriend was in the bathroom of our apartment(we live together) and I noticed that our living room was a mess. I told him to clean it up once he's done using the bathroom. He started yelling at me and told me to leave him alone since he's a grown man(we're both in our early 20's and we're also college students). Well I got a bit upset that he yelled at me so I yelled at him outside of the bathroom door. He told me to back off and I wouldn't. That was when He swung the door open and I noticed that his right hand was fisting something brown and he threw it right at my face. That thing that he threw was his feces(poop). He laughed and yelled at me that I deserved it. That was one of the worst experiences I've ever had! I have never had poop on myself especially thrown at me! I told him to apologize and he wouldn't. He even told me to clean up because I smell bad and I'm making a mess being covered in feces. My boyfriend can have random mood swings but enough is enough I want to sue!

my cousin was attempting a new sport that he had never played before and was told that he sucked at it real bad, he didn't take it to heart but he wants to know some good comeback to say when someone mentions that he sucks at it. Any of you got comebacks to say when people tell you that you suck at something, don't say the usual "just ignore them" he's looking for good strong comebacks to say, something funny or that will make them shut up

Would you keep it?
Spend it?
Hand it to the Police?

Earlier in the year, when I stepped up to put together our ten year high school reunion with two others, I put down about $500 of my own money for a deposit for a club, based on the number of RSVPs we had already received, and we planned to pay me back as people started PAYING for their tickets.

Almost no one sent in money.

We were able to put together a smaller reunion, which was tonight, at a local restaurant, but we lost the deposit at the club we had previously booked.

One of the other committee members got up in front of the group while we were passing out thanks to everyone who helped, and told everyone how much money I was out, and asked people to donate to help pay me back.

I SWEAR, I didn't ask her to do that, and I didn't know she was going to. I'm worried now that everyone will think that it was me who was asking for it.

$75 was collected. Would you have been offended? Should I keep it?

When I meet someone, I give them full respect, a 100%. But over time as I know them better it might come down. As opposed to having to earn respect, like guilty till proven innocent.
Because I think my way saves a lot of time.
