when people go on and on about being busy - I pretty much take it as rejection. I figure that they will either make me a part of their busy life or they will tell me how busy they are. Am I right about this?

I have a better chance in maintaining a friendshp with a guy that's a CEO or something than I do most people because they know how to manage their time. I've maintained a friendship with one of the leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention and I don't know anyone with more demands on their time. so you can see, I dont buy the busy thing.

You are pretty much right.
I have heard that excuse myself and I have said it myself too.

Bottom line...........people CAN get very busy indeed but if some people matter in your life : sending a quick note like " hi , hope your days is OK " etc...which takes approximately 3 seconds.......is nice and nobody is too busy to just take a few seconds to remind somebody else that they think about you; how busy they are.

So "am busy" for me becomes very invalid when you hear nothing at all : it is just an excuse. Let's face it.

Nobody is too busy to just say "Hi and just a few words"..and nothing else needed. Just to remind you that you are still in their thoughts and care about you.

Am with you on that one..although a simple "hi and have to go because blah blah" is not sufficient for some..gets draining.

Yeah..I see it as a sign of rejection too.

Good lord ! I can brush my teeth whilst answering some emails very quickly and just say "hi..sorry ..have to go" but am indicating am still present.

Just takes 3 seconds to let some people know that they are still there. even though at times you really have nothing to say but want the connection still.

i feel the same as you about it and i know i have used the busy excuse myself. truth is i WAS busy but if i had really wanted to be a friend to that person and genuinely wanted to spend time with them i would have found the time. we all lead busy lives but there should be time for people we care about. this doesn't mean that a person doesn't LIKE you but it may mean that they aren't so interested in you being a big part of there life.

your CEO friend might be good at time management, but might also be good at delegating. Everyday people can get very busy, working, raising a family or being in a relationship, etc

Sometimes people really are busy. I work 50 hours a week, go to college, and am trying to raise a baby, and have a boyfriend. I really am busy!

You sound paranoid, defensive and insecure. If you came asking me to hang out, I'd probably be "busy" too.

I agree!!! I am NEVER too busy to talk to someone I WANT to talk with!! There are few emergency situations, but those are FEW and not weekly!!
