When I meet someone, I give them full respect, a 100%. But over time as I know them better it might come down. As opposed to having to earn respect, like guilty till proven innocent.
Because I think my way saves a lot of time.

I always give people I meet for the first time full respect. Why shouldn't we? After all, they have never done anything to us to deserve any less. Like you, I may lose respect for someone after getting to know them but if they are good people then their first impression of me will have been favorable because I was friendly to start with and I have earned a new friend. Besides I have always hated it when attending a function where I don't know anyone and some people act so snooty. I am always aware of that when someone in the group is new and know that they feel out of place. It's just good common courtesy and it makes a lot of sense. I once dated someone who felt the opposite of me and always was standoffish in that situation and he said it was because he didn't trust anyone when he meets them. Well, pray tell how will you ever find out if you like someone if you act that way? I soon learned that his whole family felt that way and I never did feel comfortable around them. That was one of the many reasons we broke up. He was rather arrogant most of the time anyway.

The problem with your approach is that no one's perfect, and therefore no one is deserving of 100% of your respect, by your system, including yourself. I think that respect should be based on a person's worth, which is great, regardless of what the person does or doesn't do.

To me... Respect, like love, shouldn't be conditional. So yea, I agree. Respect everyone to the best of your abilities.

you are on the right track. We also know that respect begets respect and some more.Even if we respect a person less after knowing him/her well enough,it's within our mind and no body's wiser about it.
