I have to be at work in a little over an hour. It is pouring down rain and the streets are flooding in my area. I have no car so I have to walk a block to the unsheltered busstop, waiting till the bus comes (half the time it is late) and then walk 2 blocks from the stop to my job. I know I am going to get soaked and it would make sense to wear some other clothes and maybe flipflops since I have to walk through water and then change into my uniform in the store bathroom, HOWEVER my boss has a strict policy that we have to come in the door already dressed for work or we are sent home. Of course she has a mercedes so she isn't walking in the water like I am. The is no place to change before going into work because the surrounding businesses are a fancy restaraunt, a couple eye doctors offices and some other private businesses, thus no place to change but at my store. I know I am going to be misserable all day standing around in wet shoes and clothes (and no I can't take off my shoes.

On top of everything we have Spy shoppers also known as secret shoppers including one specifically for my area that if I fail to get 100 on (or however is there when the shop is donw) i will lose m job. I have no one to give me a ride to work and can't afford a taxi, and just need advice on how to get through a 9 hour day soak and wet and cold. I could do the work alright but it is hard to be all happy and overly friendly when I'm uncomfortable and standing in wet shoes all day.

Your boss is unreasonable, if the weather is bad and you're coming in early so you're not changing in his time, he should loosen up that policy of arriving in work clothes. It's a very silly policy; if your uniform is soaking wet & your sopping in your shoes, it's going to look bad isn't it? Does he *really* want that to happen?
If he really can't be persuaded to loosen up on this policy of his, it's time to start hunting for another job.

The boss's policy is unreasonable so long as you get to work early, so you have time to change your clothes before you go on the clock. If the boss harasses you, complain to her boss. It won't give a good impression if employees are wading around in wet clothes all day and it's also unhealthy because wet clothes in an airconditioned environment can cause the employee to get ill, which could make the store liable.
NOW, tell us where you've been for the last 3 weeks! Not a peep out of you for too long!

fins a nearby restroom or talk to someone that you frequently buy things from like a fast food place and ask them politely if it would be possible for you to change ur clothes somewhere in there. other than that.. i asked you for your personal e-mail like 3 times. can I please have it??? you sound like someone I would like to talk to . well, here's my e-mail once again: bluesting004@hotmail.com
thanks and hope this helps.
