Always overdress, regardless of the season. Wear a suit, or at least a pair of dress pants with a light colored shirt and tie.

i would say a navy blue or dark green smart cotton or linen suit & grandad style shirt without a tie. casual but smart and something that you may use again. if its likely to rain be sure you have a large black umbrella - (more so that you don't feel a fool under a pink frilly one of the lady next door!)

your friend will not want you to be trussed up like an old fart! be comfortable and enjoy the day for what it is for - remembering someone special.

A lightweight summer suit, and a tie

things have changed - you don't have to wear the suit and tie thing, but that is nice and does show respect... however, if you wear dress pants and shirt, clean shoes, you will look quite respectful.
