How do you cope with a neighbor who likes to do things a little bit different than I do (I guess). Last week we got in a pretty heated argument because I said something about his dog constantly coming over in my yard to take a crap. Now he's got a campfire burning in his backyard with the smoke (smell) filling our house up (again). 2 weeks ago they were playing basketball outside at two in the morning. I'm a patient man, but I'm running thin. How rude and inconsiderate can you get!!! We do plan to move in the not too distant future......but in the meantime, what can I do?? Oh yeah, by the way.....I own my home, and they rent. Thanks!

andy, if u do not mind me calling u that.
our neighbors are the same way, but their dog never had an accident on our lawn. they wake my family up whenever we do not want to. they almost burned their house down. and they had two pit bulls, which luckily enough ppl complained to get the police to take them.
i had the same neighbors for maybe 13 years now. i can honestly say i hate my neighbors(the kids) and they know that b/c well i told them.
ever since we were young they kept stealing. now they r 15 and 20 and nothing changed. just the other day they returned our football, volleyball, and my signed baseball glove. i am happy they returned them, but they never change.

you have to tell the man. nicely of course. go up to his door and tell him
excuse me sir, i would appretiate it if u would clean up after ur dog on my lawn. ask him politly to not to do those things. if it gets out of hand, get together with other neighbors and complain, then tell the police if it does not work.

There are two things you can do if you've already asked them to calm down. If they are keeping you up past 10:00 at night you can get the police over there.

You can also contact their landlord and complain. When you buy a new house try finding one in a HOA with restrictions. In my neighborhood none of those things would fly. They would get fined for breaking the by-laws.

Unfortunately there is really not much else you can do but put up a fence.

You're a good one b/c I would have been started tossing the dogs poo back in the neighbors dog. If he had a campfire going I would have called the fire department then sued the guy for expenses. Since you're going to be nice talk to the landlord, keep a record and call the cops.

1: I'm pretty sure its against some kind of law in most states to let your dog poop off your property and not clean it up. Call the cops.

2: Again, in a lot of places it is illegal to have a fire on your property if its not zoned for that. Check with your local offices and if he's breaking the law, call the cops.

3: Noise ordinances. They're in place for a reason. 2am is not the time for hoops. Call the cops.

4. If you know their landlord, give em a call. The last thing landlords want to do is p.o. their neighbors because they have a lot of rules and regs to follow. If the landlord is as rude as their tenants, call the cops or the rental governing board in your town.

I'm a big fan of the cops. My old landlord used to scream obscenities at her daughter to the point that I thought there was serious abuse going on. Its easier to just call them instead of wasting your breath trying to reason with irrational behavior.

You could probably bring it up with the HOA committee in your neighborhood. I think it is required by law for the HOA to have a meeting every month or so where homeowners can voice their complaints or concerns. This would probably be the most appropriate forum for your complaint. If you can't wait until the next board meeting, call your HOA and ask to speak with someone in charge of filing grievances. Since the person rents his home, a lot could be done to get him evicted if the HOA is behind it.

contact their landlord and let them know about the nuisances u have seen and from now on just call the cops. whenever they are loud, noisy, having their dog crap on ur lawn, its illegal to burn stuff in your backyard. iw oudl just call the firedepartment and tell them theirs a fire buring in the back yard and u dont know where the smoke is coming from. they can explain their actions of the campfire to the police and fire dept and hopefully be fined. if u keep complaining to their landlord and let the, know u will call the police if u have to put up with this harassment they might intervene and just evict them instead of dealing with this headache. good luck, dont be afriad to call the police esp when they are continuously violating the law.

I would call their landlord. Have a talk with them about their behavior.
If that doesn't work, next time they play basket ball at 2am, call the cops. That will make them stop.

As for the dog problem...maybe try putting up a fence. Or pick up the dog crap and dump it on their doorstep with a note saying its from their dog?

If they are later sleepers..do really annoying loud outdoor chores next to their windows. Oh have some little kids come over to "practice" for choir. Hire a mariachi band to play really early in the morning.

You should check with the HOA about what's going on and also about leash laws where you live. If he's just got an open fire blazing away in his backyard (no formal pit, grill) it might be deemed a fire hazard. If you file a formal complaint with the HOA, the owner (who would be held responsible for the fines) might do something.

Check with your local court house and find out what days a person can burn - normally you can only burn on certain days in certain months. If they are burning on wrong days call and report them - same exact thing for the dog - most cities have leash laws - confirm that your city does and then call and report them for allowing their dog onto your property.

ALSO kids are technically not allowed to play in streets you can get them on all of these things. We seriously had every single problem you stated with our neighbors and this is what I did and it worked just fine.

Ya know what, you prolly can't beat him. so you know what they say,,, join him. Most people are basically nice to other people they know. You'll never with the fight, just make friends with the guy. Try it you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel, and the results you will get will be better too. Think about it. You would have no problem telling him to hadle his dog or put out his fire if you knew him. Who knows you might really make a friend.
