I have two older children and I don't remember either of them doing this. Is this normal? It's getting frustrating. Does it mean anything?

He says mamma, no no, dadda, pish(fish) and that's about it. When he was 1 and a half he said a couple more words but does not say those words now! He screams alot, and if he wants something he will grab your hand and pull you to what he wants or he will try and get it him self. He is not potty trained, but will let you know when he wants to be changed by putting your hand on his dirty diaper, he will sit on the potty when told to. He seen the doctor about 9months ago and I told the doctor about what was going on and he did not have any concerns with it. I am looking for a new doctor for him! Anyway if you can help with any addvice ,thank you!

My son has had this very bad diaper rash on and off for the last two months. It gets so bad that it bleeds. It correlates with very frequent, soft stools. There are so many possible culprits for causes that we are overwhelmed and not certain how to help him. He is very uncomfortable and cries a great deal when it is bad. The area is restricted to just around his anus and is VERY bright red and terribly painful and sensitive. We have a prescription ointment that has a steroid and yeast infection treatment. It definitely helps a great deal and he usually is much better in the morning after having it on all night and no bowel movments during that time. However, while awake during the day the frequent bowel movements return (sometimes up to 3 times an hour) and the rash worsens. The bowel movments are very small and sticky. It is difficult to get him clean without causing him a lot of discomfort. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know what was causing it? How and when did it stop?

My little guy likes to sleep in my bed at nap time. He is only 11 months old. He has not fallen off of it. I was wondering if anyone has a range of when they put their babies in a bigger bed than a crib. I am in no hurry but would like an idea so I can look for the right one for him.

what's a starling fact about potty training? for those of you with kids, would you say it was a hard part of parenting?

I am feeling quite upset right now. My firend has just announced she is expecting her second. She has a little girl who is 17 months. She is a very careing person. The problem is that over xmas she packed her husbands bags and told him to leave as she thought she didn't love him anymore. He is a nice guy but I never thought he was her type at all. They are very different and there beleifs are very different too.
She decided after the hubby had gone that she wanted him back again and started trying for there 2nd baby stright away. She has confided in me and said she married him with her head and not her heart but now shes expecting again. Just feel really angry and want to say something but worried about our friendship. The worst of it is she told be she was expecting when I was with our other really good friend who knows nothing about there split and difference just latley so I had to pretend I was happy for her.

If you live in somewhere where it actually gets cold do you think it would be ok to take a 10 month old to the park if it is -6C and about -15C with the windchill?

Obviously bundled up well.

My poor dog is going nuts, and I want to get the heck out of the house? The problem is the park is along the railway tracks so it is definitly windy.

Thanks.

What would you do!?! I put her in a diaper and gave her a time out. She did it to get back at me for putting her in a time out for being extremely rude to her friends. I tried to explain "selfishness" to her, but it hasn't sunk in. Yet. Also, she didn't tell me until I got it out of her, AFTER I had dried everyone elses clothes in the dryer with hers after playing in the snow. So now I have extra laundry, and I think she will get to fold all of it. Help?? This seems to happen once every few months. It's NOT ok!

One more thing, I'm not her mom. I'm her daycare provider and I DO NOT deserve this.

I have been saving most of the clothes for the first 2 years, bedding, equipment (baby bjorn, high chair, excersaucer, bouncy chair, swing, crib, some toys).

At the time I figured I'd be broke when I have another but this is a lot to store. What did you do?

I'm having a baby girl this spring. I have three children from a prior marriage; the oldest is also a girl. She's been the only girl for a dozen years, and I don't want her to feel like the new baby girl is "de-throning" her as Princess. I also don't want my boys to feel like they've been replaced, but I'm especially concerned about my daughter.

What are some good ways to keep them involved and reassured that I have room in my heart and home for each of them? Truly, each one is my favorite.

My daughter is 2 and a half. We some how let her get off schedule when I was pregnant and now that my other daughter is born we realize how badly her schedule is off. So we have been putting her to bed a little earlier every night. Soon it will be 8:00 and she usually has a nap at 1:00-3:00/3:30. So is it more important that she goes to bed at the same time or is it more important that she wakes up at the same time. The naps are usually 2-2 1/2 hours we can't figure out how long she needs for a nap 1 1/2 is way to little. Anyway if anyone can help.
She went to bed last night at 10:00 she was up at 7:30
She usually has a nap at 1:00 till 3:00/3:30 except today she fell asleep at 2:00 so I guess want to know if I should wake her up at 3:30 or wait till later

My husbands Uncle just passed away and he was a huge part of our lives, we saw him almost every day, he was more like a father than an uncle. We took both our children to the funeral 5 years and 15 months. A lot of people thought that we were crazy and think the 5 yr old will have nightmares ect.. He has been great so far the funeral was only 4 days ago.but I have noticed a couple of thing he old woke up this morning and said to the 15 month old "it's ok baby brother I'm right here I'm not dead. If he can't find someone that he is looking for right away he'll yell "what are you dead?"
The same day we heard about Uncle Bob our dog was hit and killed by a car.He wanted to see the dog, he said good bye and told him we loved him then huged me and said I'm scared and that was it he doesn't talk about the dog any more. We to told him that Uncle Bob is an angle now and he's up in heaven and we told him Triton was there too.Did we do the right thing any adivce for anything up and coming?

how do you get your 18 month old to sleep at night? our daughter has always been a finiky sleeper. we have a routine and she will sleep for about 5 hours alone, but then wakes up and if one of us doesn't join her in bed until she falls asleep again, she won't stop waking up. she is in a big girl bed because the crib was a disaster. any ideas? tips? crying it out never worked for her so don't say that. she can and will cry for the entire night. our routine is set. please help.

I'd like to buy some educational, health, child-rearing and activity books, etc. for my Nanny but I can't find any good books written in Spanish other than the basic American Academy of Pediatrics Book (Caring for Your Baby and Young Child: Birth to Age 5, which I highly recommend).

My son says moma, and daddy of course. But, that's it. He is very intelligient. He understands exactly what we say. Go to your room, do not touch that, etc. He shows signs of intelligence. However, he will not talk. He loves books, magazines, even newspapers. I work all day, by the time I get home, he is in full gear. He does not want to sit, and pay attention. His hearing is fine. He is not around other kids at all. He is not in daycare. Any advice to get him to start talking? I have bought baby einstein, even the bumblebee learning dvds. I try to hold out, when he brings me his empty cup. You know, to make him at least say cup. He eventually just gives up, and goes on about his business. Some people tell me, he'll start talking when he is ready. I am concerned though. But, then again, I keep thinking he is not around kids. My husband, he talks at him. Not to him, where he actually sees his lips. HELP>>>

My 3 year old will pee but not poop in the potty. I've tried the "be patient and they will do it when they are ready" route. I am extremely frustrated though! How do you keep calm when you're washing the millionth pair of soiled underwear 3 times a day?? And what is it about poop that scares them so?

I have twin girls that will be 3 in a few days. One pretty much trained herself and just went on her own 6 months ago. The other will sit on the toilet but won't go. When she has to go she goes anywhere other than the toilet (rug, etc.) We have had her in underwear during the day and when she has to go she asks for a pull up and then we take her to the toilet but she wont go! She will hold it and go on the floor or carpet. Now just today her twin (who has been in underwear day/night for 6 months) saw her sister go on the carpet and decided to go too! It seems she's ready since she asks for the pull up and will sit on the toilet but when it's time to go she gets off of it and goes on the carpet. We've tried this off and on for the last couple months and go back to the pull ups but decided to really stick with it and have been doing this for 3 days with no luck or even just a liitle luck on her part. We praise her for even just sitting on the toilet, give her a book, & have a Dora seat.

My nearly 3 year old daughter loves to play dress-up. Most of the time it's one of her dresses with my flip-flops. I was thinking about maybe getting her a pair for sumer. The only thing though, my husband says it's unsafe. I know I wouldn't put them on her to go to the park or anything, but what about just to wear out? If she were to wear them to walmart or something, is that dangerous? I've always worn them and never had a problem but I have no clue when it comes to my daughter.

my son turned four in october and i was just wondering what is reasonable to teach him at this age. i don't want to push things on him that he's not ready for but i don't want to short change him either. he is a very bright kid and is very eager to learn (like most four year olds probably) and i want to spend more quality time teaching him things. to be exact how high should he be able to count? and should he be writing his name?
