what's a starling fact about potty training? for those of you with kids, would you say it was a hard part of parenting?

I say it all depends on the child... I worked in day care for many, many years and some children were just not ready at the same point as others... As to my own child she was ready to train and had may be a handful of accidents and that was it.

But yes, it can be challenging.. but the child being ready and patience is key.

Nope wasn't hard at all. All you have to do is wait until the CHILD is ready to be potty trained. When they start showing an interest in just sitting on the toilet you start putting them on it. They have no clue as to WHAT the toilet is for they just want to be like everyone else and sit on it. It is also a good idea to NOT get a potty chair, some children view them as a plaything and you may one day wander in and find your child has "finger painted" poop all over the place or dribbled urine all over the carpet. The best thing to do is to sit them on the toilet and to hold them on....yeah it means you have to pay attention to the child but paying attention IS a part of parenting...Eventaully when the child is just sitting they may hit it just right and then it is time to show your approval and to let them know that they figured out just what the toilet is for. Hip hip hooray now we have to keep on doing it...This is NOT the time for the underpants yet. Keep the diapers on (pullups are only good for removing money from your wallet and nothing else as they bare no resemblence to either diapers or underpants and confuse a child and causing some to revert). Once the child is aware that he/she has to go and comes to you consitently asking for help with the diaper then you can start with the underpants but I still suggest diapers until the majority of nights are dry as well.

it was very easy for me.... i let my daughter go during the day without a diaper and i would just ask her all the time if she needed to go yet... and i would put one on her at night, then i ran out of diapers and said that was it, she was a big girl, and she was......
