[Selected]: All categories Pregnancy & Parenting Toddler & Preschooler

My son is going to be 5 in November. He is now in a great preschool program until next year then he'll start Kindergarten. So when he starts next year he'll be 5 turning 6. Ok, my other son is 12 months and thinking of starting him ealier in preschool etc by one year. So he'd be 4 turning 5. Just wanted some advice from parents on what they think is a great age and if the 2nd child is more ready for school?? =) Thanks in advance!

I am wondering what anyones opinion is on the right time to take your child off bottles, all together?

My daughter is on cows milk now, but still needs a bottle at night, its like a comfort to her. She even sometimes takes a bottle through the day and at night!! She is a year and a half.

My midwife told me ages ago that a child should not get up through the night after about 4 months!!

Anyway, my question, is when is the right time, or approx age to take a child away from the bottle and use a cup only... She uses a cup as well. thanx

wanting to see his Daddy. Our son is only four and we are in a happy and loving environment now. In a nutshell, this man is very controlling and abusive and in and out of drugs(then he's REALLY psycho!) I feel so torn. I want my son to know his dad but not if it will cause more harm than good. Help! Has anyone been there done that?

Our son will be 3 in Dec. He will sit and stand at the potty, just not go. He loves his underwear and we tried to let him have accidents this weekend, thinking he won't like being wet & go in the potty - but this did not happen. Now it seems he's holding it in ...We've waited to start because we recently moved & he was having a problem with constipation. Everything else with this child has been taking things away cold turkey (bottle, pacifier) so we thought the diaper would need to be too. But if he won't go in the potty, what else can you do? Wait??

a good friend of mine is just a terrible, terrible mother. she only feeds her child fast food for dinner and only gives her soda and juice to drink. she also never takes this poor 3 yr old girl to the park. she plants her in front of the tv all day and when ever the girl wants something she says "leave me alone"! then she can't understand why the girl is out of control when she takes her places! they smoke cigarettes all day in the small apt and in the car with the little girl. Should i say something or mind my business?

My 3 year old son seems to be very dependant. I know I might baby him. He does not like going to the bathroom by himself, he always wants someone in there with him. He does not dress himself at all he can undress himself most of the time. We also have problems with his eating but I know that might just be a phase. But how do I help my son become more independant

We live in a small apartment and don't have any room to have even a few people over. New Year's baby so it's right after the holidays and don't want to spend a small fortune. Would like to keep it simple.

My 13 month old acts like she got a tip on a famine. I put finger foods in front of her and she shoves it all into her mouth until she begins to choke and gag and spits it back up. I have to sit there and give her 3 pieces (of whatever) at a time until she gobbles them up...it can take up to an hour for her to eat a meal.

She is really good with trying all new foods however do you have any suggestions on how to teach her to eat slower, etc so she does not choke?

My daughter who is four and in K4 goes to school with a child who is the same age and her mother is still breastfeeding her. She does it right there is front of everyone at school functions. This women has like 8 kids and is unmarried. When I first saw her doing it I couldn't believe it, but then I saw her take her off and her boob was hanging out. And now she does it all the time, I can't believe the teachers haven't reported her or something. Or maybe I am the only one who thinks this is wrong. What are your thoughts?

My daughter is three years old and we have had a hard time with potty training. For the longest time she could have cared less if she wore a nasty diaper for hours. If it started to irritate her she would simply take the diaper off and pee on the floor. Recently she started going in the potty. We were so extatic! The only problem is that she wont tell me when she has to go. She'll go in the potty but I have to have her sit there for the longest time. If I don't take her and put her on her potty she will simply go on herself. I've tried offering treats, stickers, new toys and everything in between. She went and picked out her own big girl panties, and she preffers to wear them instead of diapers. I just can't get her to let me know when she has to go. She is extreamly vocal and completely understands. What do I do? Please help!!!

My 4 year old just started universal pre-K and she needs to take snack into school. She is not a picky eater and loves all kinds of foods. I was just looking for some cute and fun healthy snacks that maybe I didn't think of. Thanks for your input.

A friend, her husband, baby and 3 1/2 little boy came to stay with us for the weekend while her husband helped my husband build our fence. Their little boy is often naughty and gets punished either with a scolding, time out or Daddy's belt. The little boy has been out of diapers for less than 2 months and I'm now finding out that soon after being punished is wets his pants. His parents believe that this is not an accident but an act of defiance. So, now he gets punished for that. First the punishment for wet pants is bathtime since he hates it. Then one night while at our house, the little boy misbehaved, got scolded, wet his pants and then was spanked while being put into the tub. In general I believe they are good parents trying to deal with a child who has been having behavioral problems since he was 18 months old. However, I think they are punishing him for having an accident. What do you think? Could he be trying to get back at his parents?

I am a single mum who has just potty trained her son, He is a really good boy going on his potty, but when we are outside & there is no potty around (quite often) - He often either wees himself, or if I help him with his pants - wees on his clothes / shoes! I have no guy in my life to show him (or to tell me how he should do it) so I would love advice on how he should / where he should wee outdoors, and most importantly how I should teach him. I have read similar q's to mine, but I don't even know the basics as to get him started
Step by step please - Lots of love Becky! xxx

so when ever we put our food in plated whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner supper or anyother time he will rush to potty. Sometimes it gets irritating as you are planning to eat and suddenly you must go wash him. Now i want to know why like that ? is to something pyschological or a habit ? does every preschooler behaves like that ?
please serious replies only thanx
