My daughter is three years old and we have had a hard time with potty training. For the longest time she could have cared less if she wore a nasty diaper for hours. If it started to irritate her she would simply take the diaper off and pee on the floor. Recently she started going in the potty. We were so extatic! The only problem is that she wont tell me when she has to go. She'll go in the potty but I have to have her sit there for the longest time. If I don't take her and put her on her potty she will simply go on herself. I've tried offering treats, stickers, new toys and everything in between. She went and picked out her own big girl panties, and she preffers to wear them instead of diapers. I just can't get her to let me know when she has to go. She is extreamly vocal and completely understands. What do I do? Please help!!!

If she is that old, and understands, and provided she has no physical problems (check with her doctor) i would try punishment.
Tell her she is too old for this, and if she doesn't start using the potty she will have toys revoked, miss TV, miss play dates, etc. Make the punishments longer or more severe the longer this goes on.
Would still reward the good behavior, though.

She could possibly have problems, then again she could not. My daughter is 3 years old and just recently potty trained. She will do it when she is ready. We set a timer, and started taking our daughter ever 15-20 minutes. She got to the point where even if she didnt have to go, she would try, even if she only squezed out a drop. I dont think punishment is the way. I learned with all 3 of my kids that it just makes them not want to go more. The closest thing to punishment that we did was, if she was a big girl, she got to wear panties, if she peed in her pants like a baby, she had to wear a diaper or pull up. She learned that if she wanted to look like a big girl, she had to act like one. It took time, but it worked. Just be patient and dont force her. It will only make things worse.

Leap frog has a great program for potty training. You can find it fairly cheap on Ebay. After the potty training is over, they also have other programs like new baby, abc's, all sorts of great stuff! There are also some great movies and books out there, and when they see it in a book or movie, it makes it fun. She'll get the hang of it.

try this a tickle bell. get her a small hand held bell and when she has to pee or whatever tell her to ring the bell. make it a big deal. you ring the bell when you have to go and your husband or whom ever will help to ring the bell before they have to go. and when you hear the bell no matter whom is ringing it get excited say things like whos the big boy or girl using the potty now. award yourself and others the stickers and treats after they use the potty. do not allow her to ring the bell or have a treat unless she uses the potty.
