My twins are the same way. It sucks. One does the gobbling thing the other takes such small bites and chews each one for two minutes at a time. Meals can literally take an hour! I haven't really found a solution to this problem yet, I just try to multitask. I'll eat my food with them, then wash the dishes and clean up while keeping an eye on them and replenishing their food supply 3 pieces at a time. If I finish that and they're still eating, I'll talk on the phone or pay bills ect.

I would suggest looking at how often you are offering her something to eat. It is possible it is not frequently enough and she gets overly hungry. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner should be supplemented with a mid-morning snack, a mid-afternoon snack, and an after dinner/before bed snack if needed. Try not to let more than 2 hours go during the day between feeding her. If she is very active, she may not be getting enough calories. Give her whole milk for the extra needed fat and calories she needs until she is 2.

Buy one of those little dishes that have a small opening on one side just big enough to get her fingers in not her whole hand, and then chop up the food into little bites she wont be able to get too much that way it will limit her to one bite at a time..... she will stil try but this way she will HAVE to slow down......also try a feeding bottle for applesause, and rice type foods, it has a bigger opening and it limits the intake I used it before a meal with my son with applesause in it, then he ate a little slower at mealtime!

my son will be 2 and we still can't give him alot of food at once. it is getting better but all kids are different. my friend's daughter is a perfect eater and my son shoves everything in front of him into his mouth. just have to be patient. when he has a mouthful and wants more, i just calmly tell him to chew the food in his mouth first and he can have more. like i said he will be 2 and is doing much better than at 13 months!!
good luck

Sounds familiar. lol I think you are just gonna ahve to resign yourself to having her take FOREVER to eat for now. Just keep giving her 2 or 3 pieces at a time. Also, remind her when you give it to her that she needs to eat slowly & that she WILL get more, but she needs to slow down. I went through this with my oldest. We constantly reminded her that she was allowed to have more & she would slow down. It was almost like she was afraid taht if she didn't eat it fast we'd take it away or she wouldn't get more. Not sure why she would htink that though, we NEVER took things away. Hang in there it's frustrating I know but it should pass with time.

My 15mth old is the same way he will pick it all up at one time to shove in his mouth.I give him a few pieces at a time walk away to do something & come right back to give him more.Try softer foods such as cheese peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, carrots, bananas etc.
