My now 25 year old son was a bottle baby until he was about 3. What we ended up having to do was only allow him to have water in the bottle. As each nipple became too gross and sticky to use any more, I threw them out and didn't buy any more. I also gave away all his 8 ounce bottles to another baby and he only had one 4 ounce bottle he used. Because there was only water to drink it it, he started just carrying it around and maybe taking a swig now and then. I kept an eagle eye on him and whenever he put it down to do something else I would put it in the kitchen. When he asked for it, I told him where it was and he'd go get it. Eventually he stopped wanting it all together. For him it was just security. There were tears and tempers, and a few fitfully slept nights, but both his pediatrician and our pediatric dentist said his teeth were suffering from drinking too much from the bottle.

I dont have any REALLY AMAZING ideas but here's a simple one that works. Throw away every bottle in the house and replace them with sippy cups (which he should have already been drinking out of for the past year). He will scream and complain for abt four days and then he will be over the whole bottle thing.
Just whatever you do, dont give in and bring any more bottles into the house! You are only hendering his dental development and emotional maturity

Give him whatever he wants to drink from a cup with a lid and a straw. Kool-Aid, Juice, Regular Milk, Chocolate Milk, etc. (The first years makes a good plastic cup with lids and straws)
Only put baby formula in the bottle.
He'll get tired of drinking formula, or not even like it at all. He'll eventually be thirsty enough to drink out of a cup. Plus you can promote it as being a thing that big kids do. Even adults.

We threw our daughters bottles out and told her we didn't know where her bottles went. We couldn't get her to drink anything BUT milk. She instantly went to a sippy cup and very soon after that a regular cup. She drinks about everything now and hasn't looked back since. She was around 3 when she did it because she'll be 4 in March.

My sister had the same problem with her 2 yr old and what she finally did was put thick things in the bottle like jello and when my neice couldnt get a drink out of it she got frustrated and went to the sippy cup. My sister would put them side by side, the sippy cup with the real drink and the bottle with like jello. When my neice saw she got more out of the cup she didnt want the bottle anymore. Worth a try.

WOW, your 3 year old is still on the bottle! My daughter was off of hers at 1. It is easy to take it away from them. My daughter loved her bottle too, what baby does not! all you do is just take it away and when you used to give him his bottle you give him a sippy cup. He might throw it or not drink from it, but believe me when they are thirsty they will drink from it. To bed at the age of 3 it isn't healthy for there teeth because of the sugar in the milk or juice will rot their teeth. He will be a Little fussy, but within a week he will be okay.

You are the mom. Take the bottles away. When he gets thirsty, he will drink out of a sippy cup.
Also, they have new soft spout sippy cups, kind of an in-between hard spout and bottle. This works great if you've waited this long to wean him from the bottle.
Another great reason to breastfeed!

Choose a day and throw out all the bottle. Yes, he will cry for a few days and yes, its going to be horrible for you.
But, he will be thirsty and eventually drink with other options. Try going to the store, get cups with characters that he likes.

YOU have to be strong and take it from him. At 3 I would suggest cold turkey. If you can, have HIM throw his bottles in the garbage. Then when he asks you can remind him that he threw all of them away. Or give them away.
I have 4 kids so I've had to do this before. My 2nd was not very willing to give up his bottle. I had to be strong for him and keep saying no.
