He will go when ready. We tried to get our daughter potty trained for six months and then one night she went all by herself and have done it since. Just keep him in his underpants and let him be if he wets then he'll know and start to recognize more that way than with a diaper. Also encourage him alot and praise him when he does.

First of all, stop asking him to use the bathroom. You are the parent and you are in charge. I would address this situation as a positive matter and remember, it's not the end of the world. Be sure to buy your son a "potty of his own" let him pick out his own potty and buy some stickers so he can decorate his "porcelain throne". You have to get him excited about using the bathroom! I'm sure you know his "potty schedule" since you are still changing diapers. Be sure to put him on the pot when he's "on schedule" or when you ask him and he says "yes". Always reward him for what he does, even if it's just a little. Clap your hands and say "Yayeeee for ________ ! He can sit on his own big boy potty and use the bathroom all by himself, mommy is so proud of you". Now, this won't happen overnight and it will take persistance. Be sure to ask him when he has to potty and always put him on his "own potty". Good Luck.

Well my husband actually taught my little boy how to go pee in the potty, but sometimes he still would pee ever where. So i finally told him if he could not pee in the toilet then i would make him sit on the potty and pee like a little girl!!! Needless to say he did not like the thought of that and now pays more attention to where he pees. It may sound mean but it worked for me!!~!!

My Grandpa helped to teach me to pee. We started out by peeing outside. He would make games of aiming and hitting different things in the grass or drowning certain bugs. Then after I'd mastered the control and aim thing we moved on to cheerios in the toilet. They make perfect targets and they're flush-able. Make potty training for boys into a contest, use their natural competitiveness to your advantage. My nephew was also trained similarly, he was out of diapers in a month or two.

Hello there-

There are tons of different ways to potty train. One proven way is to be persistant!! Try to be completely regular with the training. Everytime he drinks or eats, take a trip to the potty. Even if he says he doesnt have to go, go anyways, eventually he will get the hang of it. My nephew was 4 before he got out of diapers! Dont worry!! Children are very physical and believe in what they see, make it special, make a chart and put stickers everytime he goes, and when you get to a certain number he gets a special suprise! Make it fun!!! And like I said dont worry! He'll be out of diapers in NO time! Good Luck!

Someone once told me (potty trained 2 boys) to place Cheerios in the toilet and let them play the "shooting game"

I love this question. First of all, if Daddy is around have him demonstrate how to do it.
Second, make a game out of it. Throw some cheerios in the toliet bowl and have him 'aim' at the targets and drown them. At some time you will have to explain to him that writing his name on walls is not appropriate,,lol. All our sons learned this way and it took no time at all.
Good Luck.

2nd and 3rd vote to the Cherios idea! Worked for my son and my baby brother! Don't waste money on the 'Toilet Targets'. Cherios or Fruit Loops work just as well.

Put Cheerios in the toilet and have him shoot them. He'll love it and want to keep doing it. Have your husband or an older brother show him how.
