We weined my 5 children into it. They had the same problem. So we would lay on the floor and hold their hand for less and less amounts of time. We eventually moved closer to the bedroom door each night and no matter how hard it is , after the first time you tell them good night and you love them - do not interact(talk) with them. This way they know they'll not be getting a response from you . My doctor suggested this and it worked really well with all 5 of mine.

I had the same exact problem with my son. He was too active for the crib but didnt like sleeping in the toddler bed. I ended up putting the toddler bed right next to my bed that way he felt a little closer. It took a few weeks but he sleeps on his own with no problem now

Make sure he has a night light, try reading him a bed time story before going to sleep. Keep placing him back in the bed and sit in the room with him until he falls back to sleep. Good luck

Watch Super Nanny she has some exellent parenting advice. Basicly what you do is you quietly put the child back in the bed hug and kiss good night and leave the room and repeat twice. If he does it again just pic him up and put him back to bed. He is testing his limits.
Don't give him anything to drink when he asks he has one toy in bed and that is it.

We started by putting my daughter's bed in our room right up next to our bed so that she feels like she's sleeping with us. It wasn't bad cause she was actually in her own bed, so our sleep wasn't disturbed. After a couple months, we put the bed back into her room and voila...no problem at all.

You have to keep putting him back night after night. Do not talk, do not put the light on. Stand outside the door if you have to and take him right back if he opens the door. I had this problem and after 4 nights, it worked!

keep putting him back in there & tell him this is where he sleeps now...in his "big boy bed". He will get used to it....my son did the same thing.

You keep taking him back to bed, you may have to do it all night long, the first night...less the next night, even less the following night...but you have to be consistent, as well as patient.
