My son is going to be three next month. He's very bright, active and verbal but has expressed basically zero interest in his potty. This does not bother me or my wife too much, but his daycare is keeping him with the 18-month -to- 2-1/2 group because he is not potty trained. The older kids have better activities like swimming and a computer, and he's the oldest kid in his class now. It makes us sad to know he's missing out so we're going to encourage him to use the potty. We've bought some undies for him to wear at home and some pull-ups for school. I'll be helping him by showing him how the equipment works. Do you have any tips to help pique his interest? Thanks in advance.....

I have a two year old little girl that is high spirited. She is high energy, yells a lot, and nothing makes her happy, and everything has to be her way. I can't even take her anywhere because it becomes a big production with her temperment. This is overwhelming and I am pregnant!

My husband is hispanic and speaks english as does most of his family but his mother only speaks spanish. She watches our son whileI go to school 2 days a week. Our son has his own little language it seems, but still isnt really saying much. He knows how to communicate through actions and is able to tell us what he wants or needs but he doesnt use words. He can do everything and anything any other 2 year old can, so I feel like that part of the development is on target. It's possible that he isnt talking because he's learning two languages at the same time but should we still take him to a speech pathologist or wait a little longer. He does say some words just not as much as I've heard other kids his own age.

I think he is to little for a bed but he wedges his legs in rails so tight his leg will start to swell and we can't move his leg. He has done this three times now, I am afraid he is going to seriously hurt himself or we are going to have to cut the crib to get him out next time. I don't think bumper pads will help. Any one elses child done this and what do you do?

my son has started kg1 and he is not doing well in class.he is brilliant meaning he can speak english fluently(bengoli is our mother tongue.eng is second language)but he is reluctant to write or do homework. when ever i tell him to study he sharpens his pencilsor breaks his erasers or doses off or writes poorly intentionally. then after hours of patience i get angry and shout or scream. i hate to do this. he is a brilliant boy but he wouldnot study. in class the 'silly' students are getting ahead of him .but he can download games, draw in the computer, cut and make cards, sclupter and also read some . but at school he just stares and doesnot talk. the teacher probably thinks that he is stupid. what will i do? shall i hire a private teacher ?

My two and a half year old daughter was recently transitioned from her crib into a toddler bed. We read to her, stay with her awhile and then leave the room for her to sleep. We have had to put a baby gate across her doorway, otherwise she wouldn't stay in her room. After we leave, she gets out of bed and plays with her toys for a half hour to an hour before finally falling asleep in her bed. Usually, she cries for awhile too, unless we leave some kind of light on for her to see. Any suggestions to get her to stay in bed and also to not have to use the baby gate either? Will be potty training soon and she will need to have access to the bathroom.

My daughter, 3 year old started preschool on August 1st, 2006. She starts crying as soon as we reach the gates of the school. And according to the teachers she keeps crying all the time. The school timing is from 9 to 12. We have tried talking to her and trying to understand what she is going through. For the last one week, she has even started saying "She will cry if she goes to school". At home she is a friendly, outgoing kid. I am at a loss at what to do. Any suggestion would be very welcome.

In October I plan to hold a birthday party for a five year old. What would be a good time of day, on a Sunday, to hold it? I was thinking 2-6PM.

Also, if anyone has any ideas for activities or other suggestions, please respond!

Thanks.

How should you start potty training when you work full time? I want to do as much as I can at home, without having to burden the babysitter (at her house). Have any of you dealt with this, any suggestions?

When I got my son up this morning I noticed that he had bruises covering the side of his head and ear, as well as on the other side of his neck and a bit of his other ear. I did not see any of this the day before. My son is almost three years old, and I asked him what happened but he pretty much just agrees with everything I say or he says he doesn't know.

I can't figure out how he could have gotten these bruises and it doesn't make much sense for it to be from hitting his head on the wall or something because it is on both sides of him.

Please help me figure out what's going on here....

i used to spank him when he c.ried but i noticed it makes him cry more and makes me feel like an abusive and bad mother. i have started giving him time outs in his room and it works.however how many time outs can i give him in a day before they get ineffective coz i cant exactly give him 20 time outs a day.
thank you all for your advice and encouragement in the first part of the question.
i also try to always tell him what to say instaed of screaming but i think it takes time for him to get over the screaming and i will try ignore him at times

My daughter is almost three now and still in a crib, mainly because she has never attempted to climb out. Her room is located on the second floor and we are worried that putting her into her toddler bed will possibly create a more dangerous situation if she decides to take a stroll in the wee hours. Any suggestions would be very helpful. By the way, we have looked at placeing a gate at the top of the steps but the way it is layed out, there is no way to attach a safety gate properly.

My son is 15 months old, and he is not talking yet. He is talking all day,but not real words. Sometimes he sounds like he is saying some words, but they are not clear. Should he already talk clearly or it's ok the way he talks? He does say mama dada, dady clearly and he tryes to repeat words that we say,but its not comming out clear. Is he behind? Im hungarian,my husband is american,so our baby is learning two languages and he does understand us both if we tell him basic words.
He is our first baby and we are worried. He is so smart, and beautiful,we just don't know if this is normal, or we did someting wrong.
Thank you !
