My son is about to turn 2 in a couple of months, and we have have a terrible time with his tantrums. Granted grandma doesn't help.(She's the one who's made him so spoiled!) Everytime he doesn't get his way, or can't be attatched to grandma's hip, he flings himself around, and screams like he's being beaten. He also doesn't even comprehend the word "no". We've tried time outs, spanking, calmly telling him "no, don't do that" and slapping his hands. Nothing has worked. We are absolutly out of ideas. The fits I'm sure we can work through, but not listening when we say "no" is getting out of hand.

Just asking because my sister has two children with annoying high voices with ear piercing screams. Don't get me wrong, I love my niece and nephew. But those screams.... I just don't remember screaming as a child, and my mother says that none of her children (except the youngest most spoiled one)screamed.Your thoughts please.

My son is about to turn one in september and he is crawling around faster than ever before. I have a large mat down in our room for him to play on and he doesn't seem to ever be hurt or in pain. Everytime I look at his shins and sometimes his knees, he has bruises on his legs that look like somebody has been beating him with a stick! I know he doing it to himself while he is playing but it is okay for him to be getting so many? I don't have anything around his playarea that he could get hurt on and I am confused as to why he is getting bruises in the first place. I guess I just want to know that bruises are normal for a baby of his age...or how to stop them if they are not

She does not lay down with a bottle... I don't let her lay down with a bottle not so much worried about her teeth more being worried about ear infections. She will sit up and have her bottle and pass it back to me and that is it she is back to sleep that fast... is this strange or what?

I have been getting some slack for her going to be so early. Please understand that she goes to a Monetsorri pre-school which keeps her busy all day. Her dad and I both work. She naps usually from 11:30-1:00pm so when 6:00-6:30 rolls around she cranky and asking for bed. They are taught sign language at an early age to help the communication gap so she says and signs the words for night night. That is why she is so tired... sorry I should have elabriated on that a little more. Thanks for alll your great words of advice!!!!

My daughter goes to bed around 6:30-7:00 o'clock and wakes generally around 6 am. She is usually asking for the bottle around 12:30 or so.

My kids don't seem to play together very well. Is it just age difference? I'd like to foster some good sibling time, so please suggest activities that are age appropriate for all my kids and don't require an extremely long set up or clean up- With kids these ages, I don't have a lot of time for it.

She takes her clothes off and goes into the backyard where our three dogs go.My older sister says she used to do that when she was young and that I shouldnt worry about it.I have told my daughter that I would prefer it if she uses the potty inside.Sometimes she does. She doesnt seem to have a dislike for the potty, but she definitely prefers the big outdoors!Should I leave her alone about it?

Nobody yell at me! A mother in my toddler's play group gives her 2 1/2 year old a fraction of her Ambien when they travel by plane.I have heard of at least two other people who occasionally give their kids Benadryl for the same reason. They claim it's safe.I have my doubts. ASIDE from the fact that potential for abuse is huge, is it ever safe to do? I have heard also that it can have the opposite effect on some children, making them hyperactive.I seriously considered doing it last night when my 3 yr old was overtired and wired.I tried warm milk, lights out , stories, alone time, very quiet soothing music...finally she collapsed at 2:30 am!! We had to get up at 6:00 today! Is sleeping medication of any kind ever appropriate for children?

My daughter is 13 months old. Any idea how much sleep on "average" per day my child should be getting. She sleeps a good ten hours a night and will take about an hour nap in the afternoon, but she seems like she needs more, constantly rubbing her eyes and cranky.

I keep hearing this all over the place. I know this
one little boy who is almost 4 and pooping his diaper.
My mom said she had us all potty trained at 2 and my
friends mom says the same thing.

are girls more intellecually advanced at this age?

Also, why does it seem our generation cant seem to
potty train thier kids and yet our parents were able
to at really young ages?

Thanks!

My twenty-five month old son is very bright. He knows all of the alphabet by sight, can identify any letter if asked and knows all of the letter sounds. He also can also identify about thirty body parts and thirty animals and their sounds. He has been doing all of the above for the last four months or so. He just has a bit of difficulty forming words. For example; he will call a fire truck a dee-dee-dee. But if he is asked what a fire truck says, he will make a perfect siren noise. Or, he will thank someone for an item received with something that sounds similar to "Thank you", but a stranger would never know what he had said. He will make the syllables, but not the actual word. However, he can say "hello daddy” and "hello mama" perfectly. It's so strange. So, what's the deal? Should my wife and I shell out the money for a speech therapist, or just give him a few more months?

I'm having a birthday party for my son who is turning 4. I don't want to send the usual boring goody bag with junk that is going to be forgotten 5 minutes after they get home. I want to send them home with a simple inexpensive but fun homemade craft including everything they need. Any ideas?
