My daughter is 13 months old. Any idea how much sleep on "average" per day my child should be getting. She sleeps a good ten hours a night and will take about an hour nap in the afternoon, but she seems like she needs more, constantly rubbing her eyes and cranky.

These are daily sleep goals, by age, cited by Christopher Franks of Sleep News.
16 hours: newborn to toddler
10 to 12 hours: preschooler and school-age
9 to 9 ½ hours: teens
8 to 8 ½ hours: adults

I would think somewhere around 14 hours a day total. My daughter used to sleep about 11 hours at night and take either a couple short naps (1 1/2 hrs. each) or a long one (3 hrs.). Maybe if she shows signs of being tired in the morning, you could try putting her for a short nap before lunch, around 10am, or whatever fits her schedule.

On average a 12 month old needs about 13.75 hrs so your 13 month old needs some where around there.

Since you are the Mom you will know better then anyone if she really needs the sleep. It sounds to me that she might need 2 naps during the day instead of just one.

Probably 10-11 hours a night with a couple 2 hour naps during the day.

If she needs more sleep, then she needs more sleep and you should let her.. around this age they need about 12 hours.. and your daughter is almost there.

The biggest thing around this age that makes children cranky and appear tired, is boredom. If she's not outside much, or likes to sit and play rather than run around and play.. the boredom and lack of activity will make her seem tired.. I know it sounds silly, but kids show their boredom as being cranky.

Is this a recent occurrence that she's rubbing her eyes and is cranky?

It sounds to me like she's getting enough sleep - have you thought that maybe she has a touch of hay fever? I don't have it myself, but my sister and my Dad do, and this is the worst time of year for them. I would check into it.

If it turns out that she doesn't have allergies, it could be that she's teething. I know kids are supposed to get red cheeks and drool, but mine rarely did - usually they were cranky and seemed sleepier than usual.
