I think he is to little for a bed but he wedges his legs in rails so tight his leg will start to swell and we can't move his leg. He has done this three times now, I am afraid he is going to seriously hurt himself or we are going to have to cut the crib to get him out next time. I don't think bumper pads will help. Any one elses child done this and what do you do?

install a safety clear hard plastic on the otherside of rails (outside), you'll still be able to see him and he won't be able to stick his legs/arms through... make sure though it's covering all top, bottom and sides of rails (from the top frame to the bottom frame to each side), so no edges are open to him. He'll have plenty of air, since the top of crib is all open.

What if you got him a toddler bed, which uses the crib mattress and isn't far off the floor or you could just put his mattress directly on the floor.

When we first moved my son out of his crib, we put a baby gate up at his door to keep him from wandering around the house at night. He got his legs stuck in the crib several times too. It wasn't fun for any of us!

Try bumper pads just make sure to get one that can attach for to the bottom along with the sides so he can't wedge his leg underneath. Good Luck.

Change the rails into wood, or simply pad the sides with a thick blanket which keeps his little legs safe inside.

you could have your husband tack thin board to the crib.My niece had her dad do this because her daughter kept using the bumper pads & climbing out, getting her legs caught in the rail too. It worked ,of course she was mad for awhile but eventually got use to it.

I left her interior the crib, because of the fact the undertaking solved itself. solid luck.

Crib bumpers are made for that. It wouldn't hurt to try them.

You might want to try bumper pads even though you don't think they will help...it's still worth a shot.
