Our daughter has plenty of room to grow yet into the Graco Comfort Sport that we use.

My best recommendation, and what we'll do when we need to upgrade, is take your son out with you to the Babies R US (or other store that carries car seats) and try him out in them. Most places that I've seen will have demo seats that can be taken off the shelf and tried out.

Good luck!

Eddie Bauer Alpha Omega III... you can get it for about $100 - $110 at a wholesale club like BJ's. It's a convertible car seat that can support a child from 5 lbs. - 100 lbs. You can use it as a rear facing seat until your child is at least 1 years old and weighs at least 20 lbs. Then you can face it forward (if you choose) from then on... and then converts to a booster when the child gets bigger.
If you're on a tight budget... a convertible car seat is the best option as it will grow with your child. I've been using mine for a few months and have no complaints. I know Britax is a very popular one... but I believe it goes up to 40 or 50 lbs. Then you'll need another booster seat... and the Britax costs about $270.

my son outgrew his infant seat at about 8-9 months, it was one of the infant only seats. We had to go to an infant stage/toddler stage seats at that point and keep it in rear facing until he turned 1. Now I am facing a similar situation in that he is 22 months old and it seems that he is getting too tall for the harness. He is too young to be out of a carseat, the other problem being that he has figured out how to get the chest clip undone and has gone as far as getting his shoulders out of the straps. If one of us is sitting beside him with a hand on the chest clip he throws a tantrum becuase he can't play with it or get it undone. I have to make a call to public health this week and see if they can give me any suggestions if there is anyway to keep that clip locked, something that can be legally attached to it, over it, whatever. I also think that I am going to be writing to the company that made this seat and tell them that they may need to re-think a plastic chest clip and possibly replace it with something that actually locks in like a seat belt, like the existing one in the seat for the waist/crotch area.I know that my son is just curious, I not saying that he is a genious, he is smart though, there must be other parents having this problem as well. I doubt that we are the only ones.

My question is how old is your child exactly, how much does he/she weigh and how tall is he/she? I was going to ask you seperately but you don't have that feature available. Email me back if you want.

Absolutely and new car seat! I bought the Eddie Bauer Deluxe Convertible Car seat at Target (about $120). It goes from 19-52" or 5-80 lbs., so you can use it as a booster seat when your child gets older. You can use it forward or rear facing. By law infants under 1 year have to be rear facing, but it's RECOMMENDED that they are rear facing until 35" or 28 lbs. It's also very easy to strap. My 75 year old mother watches my daughter and she uses it all time with no problem.

You need a front facing car seat. You can get really nice new ones right now for 50-100 dollars. I personally like the 5 point straps. No booster until they are like 5 years old or something.

Do you have a infant car seat? Well, then ofcourse he grew out of it! Get him a convertible car-seat. My son's carseat will take him until he is forty pounds. It's a rear facing carseat, a forward facing carseat, and a booster seat. That's what I'd recomend!

Yep, time for a new car seat. I'd get one that can convert to a booster or that will accommodate a larger child so it will last a long time...and save you some money.
