I had a baby against my exes will. We were together for 4 years. I left because he was abusive, he got everything, house cars ect... Our son is now one and we have been broken up since May. My ex told me he wants to be a part of his life and also wants to contribute to half of his needs monetarily he has not done either. Lotsa talk no action. I was asking him for fifty bucks a week and he said he woud give me 25 and hasn't done that either. I have been considering filing for child support, but feel guilty cause he didn't want him. What should I do?

Is it because they are emotionally disturbed, have no mature person who notices their level of despair & gets them help & because they have access to weapons?

Or, is it because they weren't spanked as a child?

Our son is in Kindergarten. We recieved a call from the principal one day. Apparently our son "mooned" everyone in the lunchroom!

It took everything I had not to burst out laughing in the principals ear! I composed my self and continued the conversaion with her. When they asked him why he did it, he said he wanted to be funny. I was thinking "well, at least he was being honest" The principal decided to keep him in her office for the rest of the day. I agreed.

Later that day when he got off the bus, my husband and I discussed the issue with him. He did get punished from his toys and video games for that day and from video games the next day. We did explain to him why is wasn't funny and why it's not appropriate to show his naked butt in school.

Here's my question:

A family member stated the other day that we handled the situation wrong......that the punishment should have been more severe from the parents end. If he's doing this now, what's next?

What do you guys think?

What is your opinion on spanking with pants down? I'm personally not opposed to spanking, although I don't really use it except for a couple of rare occasions, but smacking your child's bare bottom? Doesn't that seem wrong somehow? Maybe not so much for a toddler, but certainly a 4 or 5 year old. Anyway, what are your thoughts/reasons on this?

I recently found a notebook of my daughters. It was just a beat up black book with a few faded quotes on the front. I read a little of it and well...she writes about travel, Chicago in particular, desparation, smoking, and just simple beauty. It's very well written. I could post an excerpt if you want...

But my question. Should I tell her about it? I mean, I'd really like to tell her how amazing I think it is but I don't want her to think I was invading her privacy. I'm also a little worried that she writes about drinking & smoking when she's underage herself [though she writes from both perspectives - for and against].

So what should I do?

Yes, getting scolded at can make children very emotional. They can even get sick and tired of getting yelled at, and sick and tired of either parent / guardian getting angry with them. Even when I was a kid, if either parent got mad or scolded me I would yell back at that parent and get mad at him / her back. I would even get emotional as well sometimes.
Does your child either get emotional (Cry) to get you to change your feelings toward you and apologize and to get you to understand that he / she isn't appreciated by your anger? Or does your child get mad at you back and yell at you to get you to understand that he / she resents your anger towards them and doesn't appreciate it at all?
When Dorothy smacks the Cowardly Lion's hand and scolds him for chasing Toto, he cries.
Are these issues your child has in life? If you're a parent with children with emotional problems, behaviors, or whatever, post a response and tell me what you know. Simple answers will not be rated.

How much tv do you let your child or children watch each day, honestly. My almost 19 month old watches about 1-2 hours per day. It's usually about 1 1/2 and 2 would be the absolute most. She only watches Blue's Clues. I never thought I'd be letting her watch any tv at this age but I just need to get things done sometimes. And she enjoys it and I really don't think it's that bad, educationally speaking. I feel kinda guilty sometimes, but she also LOVES books, music, playing, etc etc. Please don't lecture me on tv viewing, thanks!

My 17 mo has always gone to bed without a fuss, if you ask her is it bedtime? she nods her head and takes herself off to her room BUT the last 3 days (both day & night seeps) she has cried and cried, last night it was 1 hour 20 mins and just now its nearly an hour. At first I went in there as it was really out of character and she fell asleep instantly when next to me, but Im pretty sure she's now throwing temper tantrums so I have been letting her cry, am I doing the right thing?

I'd like to know what people really think of couples who choose to live childless. I'm happy about not having kids, I know kids can bring a lot of joy but not everyone is cut out to be parents.

Of course, I'm talking about your kids' dating. Does your kids' suitor have to come over and spend an evening with you before going on a date with your daugher/son? In general, I'm just curious about how you all handle this. Also, when you answer, could you say whether you have a son or a daughter and how old that son or daughter is? Still yet, if your kids are now adults, I would be happy to read about how you managed this situation when your kids were underage.

Thank you.

Our friend has 2 children: boy and girl. He spends tons of time and energy on the boy, while often leaving the girl out. She is very shy and withdrawn, also behaves far younger (in our opinion) than do most girls her age. We have caught her 5 times now pinching or kicking both her animals and ours. We tell her father, he seems frustrated, but does nothing. He generally does nothing to correct either of his children when they do something wrong. He will yell when at his boiling point, but otherwise, will let them go wild until very angry.
We are around them frequently and we have a hard time not saying anything. The children are our godchildren and we have always been told to 'help him out' with their discipline....but we couldn't discipline them as much as we'd like for fear of ticking him off.
The girl is my main concern, as her behavior, verbal and listening communications are terrible. She is a good child, but I fear for her future. Any NICE suggestions as to how to tell her dad

My husband and I were practicing nudists. We've been married a few years now and were both happy. I've got a daughter (her father is dead) who just turned 14 and lives with us. Well, one day I came home and he was rubbing baby oil on her by the pool. That in itself isn't what bothered me, as we oil each other anyway. The thing that was disturbing was that he had an erection. I asked him about it later and he said that it was purely accidental and he didn't realize it was happening. I let is go at that for the time being. Two days ago, I come home early again and he's on the computer. When he left the computer, I sat down and checked the history and he'd been to incest sites.

I've kicked him out of the house but I'm worried and concerned. My daughter says nothing sexual has happened. She's still a virgin (I hope) so my hopes are high that she'll be alright. Should I seek counseling for her (us)? I've left my husband for good, I think.

Did/have you find/found a man who,as far as is possible, can act as a "surrogate Father"/good role model for your boys?
My Father was wonderful with my boys but whilst he was ever so strict with my brothers (and me to an extent) growing up he was like a ***** cat with them. That was fine because I knew my own boys and could discipline them if necessary in my own way (my Mother was a great help though I must say).
I also had them in the cubs and scouts which helped but overall it was my brothers who helped out.My elder brother married but my younger never did and he was absolutely marvellous to my boys and knew exactly what to say to them when they were upset or driving me mad (sometimes taking them out and I never knew what he had said but they came back better for it).
I had them on my own the majority of the time but without what he did I could never have coped and in that way he *was* like a real Father to them.
I only wish that he could have had children of his own because he

My hubby works all weekend and has three days off in the week. One of these days is his day off, where he gets to go out and have a meal, shop etc, and one is my day off, where I do the same.
This arrangement has only come into place recently as our youngest has only just started drinking from a cup.
I realize that I am very lucky to be able to do this, as if he worked normal hours, there wouldn't be time.
But today I was having my dinner in a restaurant and some other parents from the school came in and they seemed to be saying I had no right to be there as I was a mother and should be sat at home every night.
I stress that this is once a week and I have no other time off.
Our children are 6, nearly 2 and a half, and 8 months.

Should I be feeling so guilty for being 'caught'?

My friend hits, spanks and yells at her 5-year-old (among other equally bad disciplinary techniques), trying to deal with a child who's continually angry, throws massive temper tantrums and is out of control most of the time, both at home and at school. Unbelievably, this parent thinks she's dealing with a bad child. She can't see that she's set up this vicious circle herself with her poor parenting skills and the child is only reacting in kind.

My problem is, as a non-parent, I have no credibility to point out her lack of parenting skills or even suggest she get help for herself first and I'd certainly get no thanks for telling her what's perfectly plain to see from an outsider's point of view!

I feel badly for the poor child who's caught in this trap with a parent who hasn't a clue, but I also feel sorry for my friend that her great hopes for motherhood are being lost in a daily battle of her own ignorant creation.

Any wisdom here would be greatly appreciated.

- Sharon.

I have a 3 month old son, and I am single parent, thanks to my son's father. He is in the picture almost once a week, but I hear from him alot. He decided before the baby was even 3 months old in the womb that we were not gonna be a couple so I kept on sleeping with him and everything, and now he is on and off and I don't wanna be with him. Yea we still sleep together and all but the sex is good. We fight over him smoking weed and not wanting to work. I am just now getting financial aid to go back to school so I can be a better person for myself and my baby and he looks at me like I am in the wrong. When nice guys try to talk to me he ruins it everytime. I admit I broke him and his girl up, but he was with me before he was with her. But now I wanna settle down and have another baby within the next year and he doesn't know what he wants. What do I do?
