my oldest 2 gave me their Christmas lists, and the youngest 5 mailed theirs to Santa. Every year every child gets one big thing, and a majority of smaller things, and every single child put for their big thing on their lists that they wanted to go to Disney World on Christmas Day. So I'm taking them to Disney World on Christmas Day (it's a good thing we live an hour away from it, none of them have been to Disney before). My question is, any ideas on how I can get everything ready and keep them from finding out (I mean not a clue), and how to surprise them come Christmas morning? i want to get there early, so do i just wake them up at 5 am (i'll prolly be up all night getting snacks, lunches, xtra clothes, etc. ready) and yell "get your shoes on, we're goin' to Disney World", or what? they are ages 5-13 if that helps. and also which park is most "magical" during winter season? (i've never been before either). thanks for any and all advice,
Ricky.

I know there are two ways Dads usually used the belt:

The "wrapper." : he'd hold the buckle in his closed hand, wrap the excess length of the belt around his hand but leave about a foot or so of the belt hanging lose. In other words, you get spanked with the end of the belt that had the buckle holes.

The "folder." : he would double the belt and spank the kid while holding both the buckle & the opposite end in his hand. His belt kept a crease about mid--way of its length. That way, you get spanked with a loop of leather.

My dad was a diehard 'folder'.

How about yours?

I am a 24 yr old divorcee with a 4 yr old daughter. Since getting divorced my ex has seen her a few times but that was a long time ago. He stopped being a part of her life a long time ago. My boyfriend and I are hopelessly in love. We plan on getting married soon and my daughter absolutely ADORES him, she accidently calls him daddy and has told me that she wants him to be her "pretend dad". Nobody has told her or even brought it up, this is her idea completely. Between all the time together, the things he does for her and the love they have, he is preactically her father now. She loves her dad but talks little of him anymore. I don't want to try and replace her father at all but if she looks at him like another father is it wrong to allow her to call him dad if that's what she wants? P.S. I was raised by my step father and look at him as my real dad, no competition.

Einstein was shy..................

I just dont see why most people see shyness as being so bad. My 7 year old is EXTREMELY shy with adult strangers and I have heard (lately) some negative comments about it. Just frustrates me because he is absolutely the sweetest kid regardless of him being shy.

I'm 36 years old and soon to be a first time Father. My wife and I have been married for under a year and I want to learn as much as possible to minimize mistakes. Personally, I hate modern, overbearing, over protective parents where the kids end up spoiled, disrespectul, obese, whiney brats on prozac. I'm not for or against spanking. They don't have to wear helmets while riding a bike if they don't WANT TO. They don't AUTOMATICALLY make the baseball team. I'm not trying to raise the next Bill Gates or Tiger Woods. I just want to raise a good "old fashioned" kid who is respectful, well mannered . . . AND PLAYS OUTSIDE !!! Are there any books that will help me achieve this ???

I don't want to hear from candy-*** parents who berate me about the helmet thing either !!!

My friends and I can't figure it out: Do you always sleep with your child while he/she is sleeping? What about naps? Do you go to bed at 7 with your baby/child? If not, where does your child take naps? If so, do you get a lot done around the house? How do you manage to have more children?

I'm not trying to tick anyone off, I just really want to know how you swing it all...

Thanks!

I have a 16 year old that swears her friends don't have to do chores but I think it teaches her that she has to earn the money I give her on the weekends and also responcibility.

I am not saying that ADHD is not real, but if every child that is diagnosed with ADHD or ADD really had it then wow we as a nation are in trouble 20 years down the road! Why do parents try to blame ADHD for the fact that their child is a monster? It seems to be a trend now that rather than a child being a brat he/she has ADD. Rather than spanking your child or punishing them drug them up. Rather than making them take responsibility for their actions send them to a shrink. Does any one else feel this way?

I see question after question from parents who are afraid to spank their children because they are afraid their children will tell and they will get in trouble. Do people not realize there is a huge difference between spanking a child and beating a child? Do people not know it is perfectly legal to spank your child, don't believe me call your local police department, hospital or school, they will tell you that you can spank your child. So my question is when did a spanking become confused with child abuse?

I'm turning 30 in 5 months, i havn't had a serious relationship for 2yrs! My teenage neice has moved in with me, and im wondering just how unethical it would be to get pregnant by someone i know, who is unaware of my intentions.. I don't want to always be the aunt who has no kids but is always available to babysit because she loves them!!!
I want a child of my own and in this day and age, do i really need to be in a commited relationship to have one? I have also had an offer from someone i know who will help me out as long as i don't declare him on the certificate..! What to do? I feel like time is running out for me.. I live in a small town, work part-time, and would like to have a natural child and then possibly foster parent. I was a fostered child and i would like to create a stable environment for other children who need it. I don't think i would fit the criteria though, what are your thoughts??

I posted this link and just discovered hundreds upon hundreds or recalled toys on this government recall link.
I couldnt believe an electronic cat my 4 yr old plays with was recalled because it has contaminated water in it ! WTF !
Who would think of water inside an electronic plush toy !
So please take some time and go through the toybox because this is just plain scary and crazy !

I JUST heard this on the news! The "aqua dots" for children are VERY dangerous. If ingested, its comparable to the date rape drug! Can you believe it?! It can cause a coma and/or death if swallowed. How crazy is that?! Did the creators not realize this when they made them?! That's why I refuse to buy stuff like that for my kids. Either way though, I'd supervise them so that they wouldn't put them in their mouth in the first place. Crazy, crazy, crazy....

Ok, so I have put my 7 year old daughter in public school and we aggree that sh must try it for the rest of the year and if she doesn't like it she can go back to homeschool. But they have put my daughter in special ed just because she's in diapers(she has a kidney problem and cannot control her bowel movements). My daughter is saying they're like tossing her balls, talking to her like she's 1, her school work is to easy, and they're not giving her books at her level. She say's the only person that's treating her normal is the school nurse(to get her changed) and that really makes me nervous.
What should I do?

A classmate of mine (college) has a daughter the same age as mine (4). She was saying her daughter took a bite out of all the apples in the fridge then threw them away after the first bite and wasted them, so she showed her pictures on the internet of starving children in Africa and told her that all those kids were starving because they didn't have enough food so she should never throw her food away and should eat all that she takes.

I get the purpose behind it, but I feel that it might have been too harsh.. Opinions?

My sister doesn't agree with me wearing my daughter makeup and entering her in pageants. My sister is always trying to teach me how to raise my daughter and I am sick of it. She has a daughter of her own and I don't tell her how to raise her. Her daughter has even asked me if she can try some on, so I don't see the problem. I believe that everyone (children included) can look pretty without being criticized about it. How can I tell me sister to mind her own business, without sounding mean?
