I know there are two ways Dads usually used the belt:
The "wrapper." : he'd hold the buckle in his closed hand, wrap the excess length of the belt around his hand but leave about a foot or so of the belt hanging lose. In other words, you get spanked with the end of the belt that had the buckle holes.
The "folder." : he would double the belt and spank the kid while holding both the buckle & the opposite end in his hand. His belt kept a crease about mid--way of its length.That way, you get spanked with a loop of leather.
My dad was a diehard 'folder'.

my mom was a folder.
But she snapped the belt first, so we would run in fear..
not lying either...and we didnt turn out bad..and our mom was not abusive...

I actually got it both ways. Most of my spankings were by hand, but after I got to be about 10 or so, I got the belt more. My dad was usually a folder but sometimes he'd wrap. Those hurt more. I never got a belt spanking on my bare butt (lots of my hand spankings came that way, though). I can't imagine what a "wrapped" spanking would have felt like on my bare butt--yow!

I was raised by my grandparents. Usually they would warn me before the belt came out. If I was told to do something and tried to give the adult an argument, my grandfather would look me sternly in the eye and say, " Do you want me to get my razor strap?". ( he shaved with a straight edge razor)
That ended my argument because I knew that if I said 1 more negative word, I would get a spanking with his strap. My grandmother whipped me on the back with a belt, once, When she told me to stop fighting with my younger brother and I got confused and said "No".
As soon as I realized why she kept hitting me and said I would stop, that was the end of it. I never thought of it as abusive and don't see that I have any problems in my life because of it.

My mom was a folder for sure. I got spanked all the time by her but my dad never spanked me.

I didn't get the belt....... I was only spanked a couple of times but just by my Dad's hand though.....

dad was a folder with a tiny leather strap (worse than any belt), my teachers at school and my mom were wrappers. my younger kids get the hand, the older ones, i will admit i'm a folder.

My dad didn't give me the belt..
But my uncle definitely was a folder with my cousins!

Dad was a folder, my uncles were folders too with their kids.
And my grandparent also was a folder with dad and uncles.
But I'll break that family tradition because a belting is too harsh.

My father used a belt made of real braided leather. Ouch. It left welts and my mom chewed him for it. He always folded it and held the two ends together.
Mom used her hand on bare skin. I don't know which was worse.

Mine was a swaper, he uses fly swap and shoes. The other asian boy live next to my house was even worse, he get bamboo swaps.
