my oldest 2 gave me their Christmas lists, and the youngest 5 mailed theirs to Santa. Every year every child gets one big thing, and a majority of smaller things, and every single child put for their big thing on their lists that they wanted to go to Disney World on Christmas Day. So I'm taking them to Disney World on Christmas Day (it's a good thing we live an hour away from it, none of them have been to Disney before). My question is, any ideas on how I can get everything ready and keep them from finding out (I mean not a clue), and how to surprise them come Christmas morning? i want to get there early, so do i just wake them up at 5 am (i'll prolly be up all night getting snacks, lunches, xtra clothes, etc. ready) and yell "get your shoes on, we're goin' to Disney World", or what? they are ages 5-13 if that helps. and also which park is most "magical" during winter season? (i've never been before either). thanks for any and all advice,
Ricky.

You can plan your day most reliably using all the information available at allears.net

I would suggest Magic Kingdom the original for Christmas Day, but purchase tickets NOW, there may be a separate fee for Christmas Day. Also realize that the park will be MOBBED that day, and consider instead giving them gift certificates or other disney related presents and hinting that you'll be taking them to Disney World in January, when park admission and attendance is at it's lowest.

Magic Kingdom, but it'll be packed, so buy now. It may be double or triple the cost to get in. I'd get them each their big Santa gift and then wrap the tickets to Disney and have them open the presents at the same time so they each get one. Then, in your oldest's box, put the note from Santa, explaining that he bought you tickets to Disney World and that he packed your lunches and they're ready in the refrigerator and that he tried to find your cooler, but didn't know where to look. That way, you can act just as surprised as your kids. Maybe get them each a t-shirt to wear from Santa that's a Christmas shirt. If it's an hour away, leave about 1.5 hours before the park opens so you're half an hour early. No point in getting there at 6 am if they don't open until 10.

Christmas is the busiest time for Disney. Magic Kingdom is the best. Talk to a travel agent to help you get everything together. You tell them what you want to do and you check over the details once they get it straightned out. Then you pick up all the tickets, pack the car while the kiddos are asleep. Wake the kids up and give them a wrapped box with a Mickey had inside. That is SUCH a cool idea. You are a great parent!!! Make sure you look into the "Fast Pass" to ensure you get to ride a couple rides while you are there. Space Mountain is the best ride EVER!!!! Good luck with your trip!

I wouldn't just wake them up and say we're going to Disney... because as you stated the younger kids believe that "SANTA" would be sending then to disney as they asked for in their letters... If I were you I would make a poster or some creative way for santa to announce/suprise them about Disney. As for getting everything ready... you can do most of your hotel/park tickets/transportation to and between parks/meals/special character meetings online or on the phone, or if you have the money a travel agent could be a huge help in setting everything up for you and if you tell them your situation they will be a huge help in not to let the kids find out because they do all the work (plus they have all the inside scoop on the holiday arangments and great places to eat/visit and if reservations may be needed they in some cases can make them for you)

Hope this all helps
Have a Great Time and Good Luck with your Trip!!

As a previous reservation agent - let me give you our best advice.

Never bring children who are not old enough to walk on their own for substantial hours. The park is some distance from the parking area and there are often lines to wait in. This can wear out kids fast and result in short tempers and "melt downs" on their part.

The best park for these children will be the magic kingdom. EPCOT is aimed almost exclusively t the 16 and older crowd with only a few attractions for the younger crowd. MGM is good but is smaller and you don't get as much for your dollar.

The Magic Kingdom has a number of different areas that will appeal to the different ages. The best advice for a group with varied ages is to bring either cell phones or rent them (just inside the ticket gates) so you can separate but still keep in touch. Set regular meeting times at central locations such as 12:00 at the statue in front of the castle (for lunch), or in front of an attraction with a smaller entrance, like the 3:00 in front of Hall of Presidents or the 5:00 at the Haunted House. That way even if you are separated you know when and where someone will meet you.

Bringing snacks and drinks is a brilliant idea to keep your expenditures to a minimum. Bottled water is one of the biggest things to remember. Also remember to bring sunglasses and LOTS of suntan lotion. 90% of the fun is outside. You can buy these at shops, but the prices are very high. Also remember batteries for anything like cameras.

Fantasy Land will appeal the most to you littlest ones, while areas like Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain will appeal to the older ones. With a group like this plan on the fact you WILL end up separating at some point simply due to different interests. Also, the new fast pass system is a MUST. It cuts you line time in half at the minimum. I was there just a month ago and had a choice of using the fast pass to come back in 40 minutes to the shorter line, letting me goof around for that time. Or standing in line for the very same amount of time. Hmmm... walk around relaxing or stand in line scootching up 2 feet every so often... not a tough decision.

Park Employees can answer almost any question you have, they are all trained in every aspect for just this reason. So don't be afraid to ask asomeone gathering trash where the best restaurant is or the nearest bathroom.

I suggest getting a map when you arrive to look for schedules of parades and such, and also to peg where the bathrooms are. Look for ones that are around corners, hidden away. These often have no waiting. I always went to one behind the Crystal Palace - it was like the secret bathroom no one knew was there.

Have a fantastic time!!!!

As to going on Christmas day and a first timer, I wouldn't recommend it! There are no guarantees you will be able to get in- it's one of the busiest days of the year for them and if you are not a resort guest they may not admit you. Like others suggested, you might want to re-think that idea and give them the tickets on Christmas and plan for a less-busy day afterwards when you can really enjoy it. I don't think it would be fun at all experiencing it as a brand-new visitor with record level crowds.

I like the idea of giving them the tickets for Christmas and then going later in January. Keep the kids home from school and go in the middle of the week when it is less crowded. (The 'playing hooky' aspect will make it even more fun for them.) You, and the kids, will appreciate not having to wait in lines and fight your way through crowds.

Magic Kingdom is by far the best park for the preteen age group. There are plenty of rides and other attractions for every age, from carosels to roller costers.

Well, try and get someone to watch the kids (outside of your home) and pack some of their clothes and put the suit case in your closet.

If this is a gift from Santa, what I suggest doing is to order your ticket online, which comes as a little credit card like plastic card. Then you can put it in an envelope or box and they can open it up early on christmas day. You can tell them Santa packed your suitcases.

I would definitely go to Animal Kingdom as well, as it was our favorite! have fun!
