What you are experiencing is infatuation with a public figure. Quite common and perfectly normal for many teens and adults, too. As a mom of 4 kids, ages 28, 26, almost 23, and 10 plus, having been a teen myself once, I know it is not harmful to like someone older than yourself when the admiration is in a fantasy format. However, having experienced a situation with one of my daughters who met an older man online, a relationship between a teen and an a much older adult rarely has a positive outcome. Put simply, I believe an older man with an interest in a teenager does not have her best interest at heart. My daughter was 15, this guy was 35. Both lied to each other first about their ages then the lies escalated and finally spilled over into her lying to us. We inadvertently stumbled upon the relationship when she was 17, an awkward age in our state as she was still a minor, yet legally had rights we couldn't control (such as she could sleep with him and we couldn't press charges). She was "in love" and couldn't see the damage he was inflicting on her. He "borrowed" money that never was repaid and she lost her checking account, savings account, and credit card. We tried to reason with her, but if we pushed too much she simply spent more time with him. It was a dark time in our lives seeing her go down paths we knew would be bad for her. She is now almost 23, the guy died of a drug overdose, homeless in a hotel, and she is left with no credit, a damaged self-esteem, and a gradual realization of what she missed out on. She thought she was helping him through a rough time, but we found out later she was just one in a string of "sweet young things" he had in his life. So, one of the biggest dangers in a real relationship between a teen and an older adult is the power the adult has over the teen. Not because the teen is stupid, simply not yet mature enough to understand the ramifications of the situation. So, while I may have a bit of wonder about my 15 year old thinking a 40-something fighter pilot is hot, I wouldn't worry much about it, especially if I thought he was pretty hot, too! There's nothing wrong with liking to look at a good-looking guy, regardless of his age. Nothing wrong with a bit of day-dreams and fantasy either, that's the stuff romance novels come from.

It's normal for a girl your age to have a crush on an older guy, especially one in a uniform. As long as you don't try and go out with one that is that much older, then your parents will understand. ALl parents went through it!

I would be concerned about my daughters eye sight if she thought that man was hot!
Girls have crushes on older men, as long as neither party is acting on it... NOW if it was some nasty guy that she never knew over the internet and was talking to, I would be alot a bit concerned, but as far as someone that she doesnt know, its normal.

I would much rather my teenage daughter have a crush on a 40 year old that she will never have any personal contact with than a twenty-something guy that lives next door.

Its normal for teenage girls to have crushes on male figures who are strong and fatherly looking, men who are around their fathers age.
Totally normal.
Now if you acted on it, THAT might send up some red flags...
