if an 8-10 year old doesnt know how to chew with their mouth closed theres something wrong with their parents.
If they can learn to cover their mouths when they sneeze, or say please and thank you they can learn to chew with their mouths closed.

Definately at 8 and 10 years old they should be chewing with their mouthes closed. Sometimes it doesn't come "naturally" they have to be reminded time and time again to close their lips when chewing.
It's gross to watch people chew with their mouth open or even talk with food in their mouth.
So I agree with your boyfriend.

um.wow.
they should definitely know that they shouldnt chew with their mouths open.
this is not just something that happens as they mature.they are supposed to be taught to not chew with their mouth open. its a habit.they are too old to be smackin their lips.
my little sister is 6 and she very rarely ever smacks her lips unless she is really tired. but other than that she hasnt smacked her lips for a really long time. since she was like 3.

Two. What the heck do you mean eight and 10? Sheesh! You have to START them out with good manners and properly doing things. Chewing with mouth open allows too much air to be swallowed, aside from it looking gross.

Why, may I ask, has nobody taught them manners yet? Of COURSE they should chew with their mouthes closed! My son is only three, and he is able to chew with a closed mouth. Someone really needs to teach them proper etiquette.

well i have an eight year old and a three year old and even they know that it is bad manners and extremely rude to eat with your mouth open.they don't do it.so a ten year old should definately know its wrong and rude.if they won't close there mouth tell them you'll book them into the zoo with the animals , or take the plate away, they will soon learn, but these are things you should have started teaching them years ago

Where have you been for the last 8 to 10 years???? It does not "happen naturally". One of your jobs as a parent is to teach your children proper table manners. This particular lesson should have been started as soon as they were able to sit up to eat.
The time for "see food" is past.
