My parents have gaurdianship of my 3 children, which I'm very grateful for. They took in my children when I was at a very low point in my life. (jail, drugs, etc.) It's been a llittle over 4yrs. since I've gotten out of jail. They said once I got my life back on track they would give me my kids back. I've been at my job almost 4 years, I get my kids every other weekend, I have est. a steady, loving home for them. But now my parents refuse to give them back. I have filed with the courts to get them back, but my parents keep cancelling or give some stupid excuse that I am not stable enough. I've offered to drug test when ever they want, I've completed a drug program, do to NA meetings. I know they're just trying to drag this out til my older 2 become of age. My son is almost 16 and my daughter is almost 14. My youngest is 9 and has a different father than the older 2, my parents absolutely hate him, even though we are now married. What more can I do?

I'm a stay at home mom of 2 active boys. I quit my job so that I can raise my children on my own. Besides the daily care I give them of feeding them, changing them, bathing them, etc., I spend very little time playing with them. I feel so tired when I'm not doing something I have to do, all I want to do is go on-line or watch tv. Am I a bad mom for not spending quality time with my kids?

Hello, I am a college student currently studying early childhood education and I have an assignment to Interview parents of young children (age 2 and older) to determine what they mean when they use the word "discipline." If you wouldn't mind answering the following questions, it would be greatly appreciated!
1. What does the word "discipline" mean to you?
2. How do you discipline your children?
3. Does the method of discipline that you use work? Why or why not?
4. What kind of discipline do you expect your child's teacher to use?
5. Why do you think so many children have problems controlling their behavior today?

Since no one teaches anyone how to be a parent anymore, it seems like the first child is always a test model, with inexperienced parents, but by the time the second one comes along, the parents have learned from their mistakes and know more what to expect, so the succeding kids have better parents. Is that true? Does that explain why different kids from the same family behave differently?

It seems to me that behind every schoolyard bully or vandal there is an enabling parent who either encourages or defends the behavior or who is in denial about it. And violent children and teens seem to have violent parents who are handy with a paddle, belt or fist.

I know there are some medical conditions where kids just act out every impulse that pops into their brains, but aside from that, bad kids just don't come from good homes, do they? I've heard interviews with parents that insist they've never done anything wrong and can't explain their child's behavior, but I can't help feeling that anyone seeing the family in action would have a different opinion.

What do you think?

I'm dead serious, please don't laugh. I have a 9 year old son and he accidently stopped up the toilet, and my husband was very ticked off, cussed and yelled at 9:30 that night. I had just tucked my son in and told him goodnight and I guess he was dosing off, and my husband went in there (mad) and made him stand there and watch him unclog the toilet. I thought this was stupid and wrong. It was a complete accident, it's not like he flushed a toy down the toilet!!! What's your opinion on this?!

Thank-you.

Hi. I am Mexican and mother of a 14-year old daugther and we may move to Kansas City, Kansas soon. She is freaking out because she feels she will have a hard time in adjusting (we live in crazy Mexico City, very different from the quiet life in KC).

Could you please give me some tips on how to help her cope with this change? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My friend has a boy who is about to turn 8 yrs old he is a monster I would'nt normally be like that about a child I will give some examples of what he does...
Everytime he is at my house he wee's or poo's every where in my toillet,
he's mean to my four year old son
he kisses and cuddles my six year old daughter when she ask's him not to
he spat at me when I told him off
he is violent to his mother
he has to win at all costs
he tells the smaller ones to do things
and lies
called His mum a F***ing W***re in the middle of the shop
and hit a 6mth old baby
he does other things also but they are some of his worst
I have got to the point where I dont want him at my house for my childrens sake I have talked to his parents but no matter who tells them and a lot of people do
she will make excuses for him in front of him I am an upfront person and have said I think the kid needs to see a doctor
all she can say is he's no naughtier than other children how do I say No more

How long did it take for the money to arrive from the time you sent off the form?
And did it just turn up in your account one day or did they send you a letter telling you you got it?

- should I maintain a cavalier attitude about accidently injuring the brat?

I'm talking specifically about the idiots who let their children run wild in supermarkets (nearly smoked one with a shoping car the other day) or in restaurants (where some screaming ill-bred runt nearly upset a waiter carrying a ray of hot food).

If these people don't care enough about others let alone their own children - why should we?

I was watching the news this morning in Los Angeles and there was this little boy that was so over weight he could bearly open his eyes. I'm thinking how could this have happened. Then I noticed that the mother was over weight as well.

However! My mother was obese while I was growing up and I was never over weight as a child. I'm a little thick around the edges now, but I'm 25 and that's my own fault. Seven-years-old is WAY too young in my opinion to be morbidly obese.

What do you think?
Is her heart in the right place just a little misguided?
-OR-
Take her kid away and never give him back!

My best friend had a baby over the weekend. What should have been the most joyus occasion has turned sad and disturbing. The baby passed away and the father has all the sudden decided he wants nothing to do with her and won't acknowledge her as the mother. He recorded the birth with her permission but now he has given the tape to his family. They are refusing to let her see it or have it and are making copies which is very upsetting to her. Its her personal business and shows parts of her she doesn't want the world to see. She has enough problems as it is right now but she doesn't want them to do this and show the tape around considering it was just for her and the father to see and show to people the both chose. She's really looking for opinions from other women on what to do and what they would do and even though it was his camcorder she wants to know if she has any grounds to stop the copy productions.

i've got 14 kids from grades 1-12. they have all come to me saying they want to be homeschooled and have it all figured out. They said we could turn our junk/sitting/video games room into a school room. while i'm at work, the two oldest could teach (age 19 and 17, they love the idea, both want to teach when older). when i'm home, i could teach. sort of like a one room school house. none of them like public school very much and have all done their research on the pro's and con's of homeschooling. they sat me and my husband down and gave us an hour long presentation on why they should be homeschooled. we told them we'd think about it. i'd grade papers and teach my 17 year old and help with the other kids. my 19 year old is a community college student. thoughts?what should we do? anybody homeschool? how much do books cost?

What's a better way to handle a child, Time Out, or a Spanking?

I am so sick of these parent 's coming on talk shows crying because they can't control their kids. Being a parent can be challenging I agree, but I think its time to lay out the BELT when your child is slaping, and punching you. I wasn't abused, but I did get spankings and I have to say I don't regret it. I respect my parents, always have. I wish I woulda called my mom a B-word...I would be wearing false teeth right now.

what did you name your kids and how old are they and how did you come up with the name? My daughter's name is chantrella and she is 9 yrs old and i just made it up when i was 14 yrs old and when i had my daughter at 25..that was what i named her. My son is 13 months old and his name is brendin. I could not think of a unique name for a boy so i did a unique spelling. My mom and my daughter named him. my fiancee did not have a problem with me naming him that as my mom died 4 days before my son was born and i raised my daughter with my mom and dad's help so it was only fitting for my mom and daughter to name my son.

my mom died from breast cancer when i was 10 (I'm now 17). My dad's remarried since then. My step-mom is wonderful. She treats me just like she treats her own daughter. There are 18 kids living in my house (It's a long story. His kids, her kids, adopted kids, cousins, their kids. big mixed family). and she treats us all the same. i want to start calling her mom, but I don't want it to seem like I'm forgetting about my real mom. I think my mom would like my step-mom, but i still don't know what to do. I wish they could've met. Should i start calling her mom?
