One of my coworkers asked me today if I let my daughter take a bath with me. My daughter is 2 1/2. I said yeah, why. She said that she had never even thought about that. Not that she thought anything was wrong with it, just that she had never even considered it. Is this really so unheard of? I don't see anything wrong with a mom and toddler taking a bath together.

Nervousness/anxiety before bringing baby home???
We are adopting and are SOOOO excited. The baby is due in three weeks and it seems the closer the date gets the more nervous I get and the more anxiety I can feel coming on. Is this what every expecting mom goes through? I know this is a silly question, but this is our first and I don't know what to expect at all. I do have anxiety disorder so helping my nerves stay calm is great and knowing that all these feelings are normal will help a lot!!!

I have two small girls and my husband and I own two guns. We keep our HK 45 handgun on the nightstand beside the bed with a full clip (none chambered) and the safety on, for protection. We also have a Mosberg 22 shotgun standing up in the closet, fully loaded (none chambered) with the safety on. We have always been open and honest with our girls about the guns. We even plan on taking the oldest shooting. I was wondering how other parents felt about this. The kids are never in the home unsupervised because I am stay at home mom and we have taught the oldest that if she is curious that she can come to us. I feel it's a safety issue having guns in my home. I feel more protected having them there but I was curious to know other parents feelings on this issue. In your opinion is it okay for us to keep our guns out in the open with our kids?

My three year old daughter misbehaves constantly. I have tried so many ways to curve her behavior. Time outs, early bedtimes, rewards when she is good, and even spanking (which I read a very enlightening article on the effects of spanking and I will not spank my child ever again. It's not effective) I was just wondering I was told that a good punishment is to start taking toys away until the behavior turns betters. I was trying to get some input on this. I was told to keep taking toys away till she starts to behave even if that means leaving her with nothing but a bed and her bedsheets. I think this is a little extreme but I am deperate to find a way to make my child behave. Could this work or is it a little too over the top for a three year old?

If you haven't you are so lucky! My ex mother-n-law has stuck her nose in every single situation concerning my son. When I went to my divorce hearing, my ex's mother actually had the nerve to sit at the table with my ex, and even spoke for him when the judge asked him questions. My lawyer had to request that she be removed from the room! She has made the visitations about her, like she has rights(which she doesn't). She has even made parenting decisions about my son when he was suppose to be with his dad(including getting my son baptized before he even knew what that meant, and hiding it from me, just so that she could say that SHE was the one who got my son baptized. He was 7 yrs old and didn't even know what all that was about). She used to call 4-5 times a week and leave hateful messages when I wasn't home. She would call at 9:30 at night, when I asked her not to call past 8:00. I finally put a stop to all that. Am I the only one who has to deal with an ex MIL like this?

My son has just found out that he is the father of a child, he went to court the mother and the father agreed on joint custody with which that was to start on Oct 1, there was a month or so for the mother to arrange visits to get the child use to the father and his family, she cooperated for the first week with 1 hour to 2 hours per day everyday, then we tried 3 times calling to set up more time and she was too busy so we told her to call us we hated to bother her for her to call at her convenience, she did not call us, then we called and told her that we wanted him to come on the day that joint custody started for his birthday and wanted him to stay by himself and we would call them if he got too upset but they showed up and said that he is too young to leave him and they was going back to court for supevised visits because he is too young. What do you think? He is 1 year old. Court papers says joint custody. Also my son tried several times during the year for her to do a DNA.

My son is 22 years old and he has Cerebral Palsy. He also has insomnia. His doctor created a bedtime routine for him that consist of a warm bath with Johnson&Johnson's bedtime bath then to be washed with Johnson&Johnson's bedtime cream wash. after that he must be massaged with Johnson&Johnson's bedtime baby lotion then change into a clean diaper and his pj's. He must then to rocked to sleep with a warm bottle of milk containing a generic sleeping aid. When the bottle is empty a pacifier must be placed in his mouth to ensure that he sleeps the entire night. It work but he cries without it and will not sleep at all.

It's not like when we were kids. Nowdays, you either live in a city or burb and you are paranoid about the happenings in the news and keep Jr. on virtual lockdown or scheduled to death...or, you attempt to give some freedom to the kid, and your neighbors call the cops on you for letting the kid play unsupervised in the fence because it's "unsafe". What to do?

Now they claim childhood obesity is epidemic. People moan and groan about all these big kids when most parents only feel safe when Jr. is slapped within view in front of the tube watching Batman or playing video games. They won't allow the kid to play outdoors and be a kid, or they have busybody neighbors that think a 6 year old is unsafe in a 8ft high steel fence with two dobermans and a rottweiler for playmates.

What kind of childhood are kids having these days? I would have suffocated, withered and died at the hands of a parent this day and age when I was a kid. I was raised in the country. Things were different.

I am thinking of dressing my daughter as some sort of princess for Halloween and I am wondering is it better to get the Halloween Costume or go to the dress up section and get something there.
Which will last longer and be more durable.

My son and a young lady had a short relationship last year and the girl was pregant, he had tried 3 times within one year for her to get a dna but she refused, making him think he was not the father because she was seeing another man, but she got government assitance and the state had him take a dna, so court ordered visitation to begin on October 1 and joint custody. We have had several (around 8) short visits to get the child accustomed to his new family before joint custody began with the child and mother, so anyway joint custody began yesterday and we had him a birthday party and they were suppose to bring him and leave him for the day but the grandmother shows up and would not leave him with us. We did have the party in about a hour because everyone was too upset to drag it out any longer and we had no conflict just told them we would contact our lawyer today, what do you think?? The child is 1 year old.

My husband and I have been together for 5 years and married for 2.

I am 24 and he is 26.

We have been talking about having our first baby for about a year now.

My mother and I have always had a rocky relationship and this year I finally put my foot down and distanced myself from her.

Since then my desire to be a mother has gotten worse than before, I want a child of my own that I can give all the things my mother never gave me (love, respect, etc.)

My husband and I want a family of our own and are financially, emotionally and mentally ready.

Sometimes I feel when I have a child I can fill a hole in my heart that my mother has caused by not being a crappy mother.

My grandma was verbally and emotionally abusive to my mom, and I know I can stop the cycle!

I have been to a therapist for about a year and he said I am well adjusted and seem like I would be a good mother.

I want a baby most because I love my husband and want to share something amazing with him.

My 11 year old ( 12 in Nov ) wants a cell phone soooooo bad that's all she talks about. She's a good kid, gets strait A's ( 7th grade) does chores, helps with sibligs and makes good choices. Should I get her one for her birthday, or is she too young? My husband and I go back and forth on this matter and we just can't decide. Do your kids have one? How old are they?

I don't want my girls to have a low self-esteem, a bad body image, and poor social skills. I want them to be athletic, popular, and outgoing. Right now they are young 3 1/2 years and under. What things can I do to help them become well-adjusted and well-rounded? How do I encourage them to become the best they can without pushing them away or making them be something they aren't? What can I get them involved in now or in the future?

I'm sorry but I'm so disgusted by all of these parents on television giving their kids outrageous gifts that they clearly aren't ready for. What I want to know is why parents are giving their children everything?? cars, jewelry, outrageous gifts, etc. Don't they realize that they are crippling their child in the long run?
