www.ssa.gov has a list of the top 10 most popular names and it goes back a couple of years. Hope this helps!

Go to the Social Security site that Josep refers you to. It has rankings for each year after 1879; it will give you the top 1000 (you can get smaller lists) names; and you can get rankings by State.
