I'm sorry but I'm so disgusted by all of these parents on television giving their kids outrageous gifts that they clearly aren't ready for. What I want to know is why parents are giving their children everything?? cars, jewelry, outrageous gifts, etc. Don't they realize that they are crippling their child in the long run?

A group of my co-workers just had a debate over the topic, it was such a juicy topic that I just had to see how the world felt about it. By the way, I am in no way jealous because I too was fortunate growing up but my parents did make me work for a lot of things. In the long run, I turned out ok but I know a lot of others who are down and out and mommy and daddy are nowhere to be found.

They are just showing the kids that money is the most important thing out there and if you don't have it then you are nothing. I think it's wrong to but hey what can you besides teach our own the value of money and how great the reward is when you accomplish your goals.

This has been going on for a long time. I suspect since the last recession at least. Each generation has vowed that my kids are going to have it better than I did while growing up. It probably has gone over board and should start going back to where the kids need to learn responsibility, respect, putting others before themselves, feeling the pride of taking care of themselves instead of expecting mom and dad to take care of them. Some where this last generation has gotten the ideal that things are due them just because. I don't know how this is going to get "fixed", but it needs to be done.

I can understand both sides here. Parents want their kids to be happy and to have things that they might not have had growing up. At the same time, if a child gets everything they want by just asking (or in some cases demanding) then they will never learn the value of money and how hard some people have to work to get it. This leads to direspect and poor treatment of others.

You must have been watching that Sweet 16 Birthday!! Which is disgusting!
Not all parents are like that. But the ones that are, they are compensating for something. Either they didnt have a lot growing up or they are trying to show off what they have. Or they just dont know how to say no.

Aw a voice of reason! Parents who just hand over anything that a child desires will certainly rue the day. A child that works for what he wants or is sometimes deprived of a material object that is not suitable for a child will grow up appreciating his own self worth and not believe that the 'world owes him'.

All of these parents on television!!!! Do you actually understand what you just wrote...I agree that "My sweet 16 party" and others are a little outrageous, but it's television...not exactly everyday real life...

I think someone is a little jealous!

I wasn't given everything, and even though kids look like they have a lot, maybe they have jobs or something. I certainly never got what I wanted all the time.

I don't think they really think it through.

A) It's easier then saying no
B) gifts could be their love language
C) They want to be a friends and not a parent.

i give my children everything that they want - my husband makes mega-millions, so it really isnt a problem. you must be really poor cause u don't give ur children everything that they want. there are a few downsides to being a "trophy wife", though. i have no choice but to give birth to another 8 of his children, atleast. his will is law! i'm about to give birth to our fourth anyways.
