my niece is 2 years old and doesnt share with my 1 year old, she thinks every toy or object or food is hers, this occurs at my inlaws and also at my house. i know age 2 is a tough age and i can accept that, the problem is that neither her parents or grandparents say anything to her, she will take away from my daughter and it is accepted. i dont want my daughter to be bullied and i dont want the uncomfortableness that goes along with disiplining her myself. why do parents let their children do whatever they want. i dont want any awkwardness between my sis in law and i ( she is a very sensitive person) how do i handle this?

I don't really know how to respond to that...I don't encourage it, I don't discourage it. I'll either ignore it or try to redirect her to "let's pretend we are princesses...." Her mother is not in the picture, only a couple of visits in a couple of years, doesn't call, write, etc. Would there be a better response?

And then they turn around and say that they're the mother so they automatically deserve to have custody of the child?

If they weren't responsible enough to keep their legs shut, how much more responsible do they think that they're going to be after the child is born?

I'll admit it,I am extremely old school and the way children act today sickens me,school shootings, kids telling their parents to shut up,the juvenile crime rate going skyhigh,10 year olds with cell phones,12 year olds going on dates to the movies,it just blows my mind and I am only 20 years old. It might be because I was raised by old school parents though. What are your opinions?

I was raised in a Catholic home, but have chosen to raise our children as spiritual but not as part of any organized church. Halloween is something I have always enjoyed...as a child and an adult...and have passed on the traditions surrounding it to my children. Part of this has been to take time to learn the origins of the holiday, which has roots in both the Catholic church and the pagan religons. I am curious as to why some families choose not to celebrate and if this is a long standing family and church tradition or has been a more recent interpretation/adaptation. Thank you for sharing.

I'm thinking of introducing the potty soon, at about 17 months, and just taking it very slowly, no pressure until hopeefully she will be daytime trained at 2. Thats my theory anyway. Do you think it will work?
Also I would like to hear some of your experiences, when did you start, what did you do etc.

My cousins 13 year old step son is failing 65% of his classes because he admits to being lazy and not turning in his homework. He also doesn't take a pencil or book to class. He has the potential to get all A's. And currently he is getting A's in Social Studies and Spanish--but failing Language Arts and Math among others. She has taken away all forms of entertainment TV, Games, etc. He goes to school, comes home and does home work, and then does chores around the house after dinner and goes to bed. She has even taken away trick or treating. He just doesn't care. He has been hanging around with some bad kids who talked him into stealing a bag of cheetos from a grocery store last week. He was caught but the store didn't press charges. However his school made him go to the jail on Saturday and watch a video and meet a kid from the video that's in jail and he also had to go to the grocery store and do community service for 2 hours. Nothing seems to phase him....what else can she do??

So here's the deal, We have a boy and a girl. They are both wonderful kids. My wife is 28 and has had babies on her mind for a long time. I've been telling her I dont really want another and I've told her my reasons (mainly money & my content). To top things off, I'm already fixed. We are having troubling making ends meet as it is. I know there are 2 of us and it cant be just about me, but I dont think I could handle (emotionaly) another baby in the house. Any advise on what I can do to come to a comprimise?

I think parents and kids should be able to have fun together, and I don't think being in the bong does any permanent harm to the goldfish, it just makes them swim really funny for a while.

If a parent finds a note and reads it, they are snooping. Thus a "bad parent"

If a parent doesn't read a note and their child ends up pregnant they were neglectful. Thus a "bad parent."

I would like to know where do you draw the line with teenagers? I know everyone thinks if you are open with kids they will come to you but that doesn't always happen. Should we not invade privacy and let teens do stupid things (sex, drugs, and self-abuse)--that will end up hurting them in the end? Or should we snoop and stop the mistakes from happening?
