Pregnancy & Parenting - 4 September 2007

I have a 2 year old boy who we are having trouble with. He seems to be a VERY strong willed little boy. He just doesn't listen to me. If we are out in public, he will run around, refuses to hold my hand or sit in the cart. Even if I strap him in, he will scream and cry all the way thru the store. If we are out eating dinner, he will crawl underneath the table and try to get out. At home he flushes things down the toliet (luckily I am married to a plumber), climbs the counters. You name it, he's probably done it. If you tell him not to do something, he will do it anyway. I have tried standing him in a corner, putting him on the couch in time out, smacking his hands and I have even spanked him. He's not horrible ALL the time, but he sure does have his moments. I am at my wits end and I just don't know what to do. I don't go grocery shopping with him anymore and we can't go out to eat with him either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and went to the doctor and she told me that my cervix is open but it is long does anyone know what that means. I had meant to ask what it meant but was so excited about finding out I was having a girl that I didn't. This is my 3rd child and the other two were both induced because my cervix would not dilate on its own or get soft.

I know they cut your tummy and pull out the baby.I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my 1st son and found out the guy that got me pregnant gave me Herpes. So I've elected to have a C-section. ( Less risk to the baby) I'm scared. What all do they do?

My son is almost 9yrs old. His last sneakers were a size 6 in the upper kids sizes. Where do you go from here? Most kids shoe sizes stop at 6 or 6 1/2. The men's shoe sizes don't start until about 8 or 9. Is there something inbetween I'm missing...like a juniors or something? Thanks for the help.

i had my teeth cleaned today. it's been a year and a half since i had it done because of health insurance reasons. last time i had it done i was 3 months pregnant and didn't have much tartar build up as usual. i've went a couple years before without having any dental cleaning too. i've always had such good teeth and take good care of them.
well today i had the worst tartar build up ever, it hurt so bad to have it all scraped off under my gums. they said that they see that alot in pregnant women who had quick fast cleanings normally and then got pregnant and would get cavities.
how were your teeth while pregnant?

I was wondering if I can just go to the pharmacy at Wal-Mart and pick some up, and also how much does it cost? I have a two year old son and a fourteen month old daughter, and between college, work, recently buying a house, etc. I just am NOT in the position to have another baby right now! My daughter is breastfed and I have only recently gotten my periods back. Don't know if I'm even ovulating, but the condom broke and I'm turning to this as a last resort. I don't believe in abortions but I am not against preventing the union of a sperm and egg if at all possible.

I would like to get a pregnancy test done but I'd rather not buy one b/c around here everyone knows everyone and I'd like not to have to explain it to anyone. How do I set up a doctors appointment? And without having to talk to my mom. Or how can I pick one up without being too conspicuous.

my sisters who are 7and 9 are making a plan to get my parents back together.they got divorced a couple months ago and they took it pretty hard.im 15 and they only dude in the house so they always want to be around me which gets pretty annoying pretty fast.but my parents expect me to be with them every second.which i dont realy care sometimes there my sisters and i love them but they want to be there all the time and they get really annoying. i even suggested that we spend some timealone sometimes if they let me hve my pricacy. but the thing is with this plan,it envolves my moms new boyfriend who she wants to marry. they want him gone and they wont tell me exactly but they are gonna do something.. so what do i do to find out?i cant talk to my mom cuz she gets pised off and my dad doesnt give a sht about us.my sisters dont no tht but he says were a waste of his time and money and he dont want anything to do with us but he stil wants us to go thre evry other weekend and stuf.whts goin on?

okay so im a freshman and im almost fifteen. i have a cousin who is seventeen and now that im in highschool she asked me if i wanted to hang out with her and some of her friends this friday. she wants to introduce me to them so that when she goes off to college i will know some people to have my back.shes my cousin and i really love her and i think its soo sweet of her to offer me to hang out with them, becasue shes really popular.BUT... my dad picked up the phone and lisened to my phone conversation and said he doesnt want me to hang out with her because she made alot of mistakes when she was younger.i understand his concern but i think he should give me alittle more freedom in this situation!

They stayed the weekend with us and as usual his niece drove me nuts! I talked to my mother inlaw about it this afternoon and her response was that they just won’t bring her anymore. It wasn’t like she was saying that as a result of this child acting out, it was as a result of me saying something. They are very defensive when it comes to this child and so is my husband, although they have all commented that the child’s behavior is out of line. I just couldn’t tolerate the backtalk, tantrums, begging and constant desire for attention.

Can it be a sign of pregnancy? I mean its only my nipples my boobs dont hurt at all and i can only tell their soar if i touch them or when im in the shower. Im 18 this is the first time this has happened to me. My period is'nt due for another 2 1/2 weeks. So can i be pregnant? plz let me know im getting kinda nervous.

Hi,

My 3 year old is going to be "star of the week" next week. He's our first child, going to school for the first time, and he's the first "star of the week" in his class. I have no idea how to decorate the poster. And there were no samples of previous posters since he's going to be the first one.

His teacher gave me a poster board, orange on one side, yellow on the other, totally blank otherwise. It's about 30 inches by 36 inches. She said to put stuff he likes on there, stickers, family photos, info about him, etc. Then she said, "some parents really go all out with the poster."

I am not really an artistic person but I do want to make a great poster for him. What does "really all out" mean anyway? I'd like to go really all out...if I had any idea what that meant in regards to a 3 year old preschooler's poster.

Would it be bad to go on a camping trip in the summer when you are 7 months along? would it be better to go camping in the summer while 6 months along? We always have a family camping trip in July and we are going to be trying for a baby pretty soon. I know you don't always get pregnant on your first try but we did with our first and my mother did with me and my sister and my mom's mom as well and her sister....

And am looking for ways to help with speeding up labor...I know its real early but I have been to the hospital 4 times in 1 week for contractions being 2-5min apart and they admit me give me steriods for the babies lungs, then give me a shot to slow or try and stop the contractions...which works for a few hours but then my contractions are back to 2-5min apart...does anyone have any helpful advice or suggestions for me?

hey every1!!!
i got an ultrasound done so they could get the anatomy of the baby & the doctor couldnt get a profile pic to well, then she asked if i had a lot of presser on my lower belly on a regular & i said yes &that it hurts sometimes when i work or walk, so she told me the baby is Very low & she kept saying it when she was moving the thing around my belly.. she tried to move the baby by pushing it around & it wouldn't move out of where it was so she told me to go on my side & that didn't work so she pushed the thing in my belly harder to get the profile pic. she got a pic but it wasnt good enough so she gave me another appointment.
this is my first baby so i dont know whats going on. i went to my doctor & asked her what the other lady was talking about & she just looked at me in a "what u talking about" way & then told me its nothing, then i told her about the glop of thick clear mucus that came out b4 & how big it was, she said its nothing again. whats going on?

I hate to be one of those dumb girls that ask "Am I pregnant?", but I'm hoping to hear from your ladies if you have been in the same situation and whether you were pregnant or not.

Before you say, "Go to the Doc", I have an appointment for Friday (earliest available).

Okay, I'm 23 and I have a cycle that is between 28 and 31 days. I'm at 36 days since my last period now, which makes me at least 5 days late. HPT came back negative (okay, okay 4 HPT came back negative. One for each day that I was late). Now today, I have a lot of odorless white and clear discharge that i've never had before.

I'm not trying to concieve right now and this is my first pregnancy scare. Half of me thinks that it's just stress that is making me late, but the other half feels like something is way off.

My daughter is a thumbsucker which makes it very hard for her to learn. When she's sitting for a couple minutes at a time she starts to suck her thumb which puts her in some kind of comfort zone and makes her not able to focus but relax. How can I stop this? She's four now and you would think that at this age she would know her alphabets but teaching her is very hard when that thumb is in her mouth. She starts school next year and I'm getting worried about her learning ablilty as a thumbsucker.

I'm trying to figure out if I am late for my period today. My last 3 cycles were 25 days long each, and the one before that was 27 days long. I am on cycle day 26 today, would that mean I am 1 day late for my period or should I not count late untill after cycle day 27?

My husband doesn't know how to treat a baby. We have two children, a two year old daughter and a 3 month old son. I never remember my husband having a hard time when my daughter was a baby but because she was such a good baby and never cried. Now with my son, he doesn't cry a lot only when my husband is holding him. He's the kind of baby who needs to be comforted all the time, talked to and played with constantly. Well my husband just holds him and doesn't even try to calm him down. He says he feels stupid and silly talking and playing with a baby. Does anyone else have this problem because I just don't know what to do anymore. I get no help because my son just cries when my husband is holding him.
