I literally have boxes of the stuff from his service (1938-58) that I have come in to possession of after the death of my grandma. He reached the rank of RSM and fought in North Africa and Burma, and formed part of Heilie Sellasie's personal bodyguard. He also served as a chindit.

I have items of uniform, an old Vickers (?!), medals, archaeological relics, hunted furs, a dispatch motorcycle, and letters addressed personally to him by the Ethiopian Emperor (thank you for your brotherly kindness, I will always remember your service, please visit again soon), Monty (good work RSM, you are a credit to the Army, stay in touch) and the King (your work and sacrifice for this glorious Empire will be spoken of by your family for a hundred generations... thanks to your contributions to the war effort the sun will not set on our sceptred Isle for another thousand years)...

...he knew these men personally, I have photos of him with them during and after WW2. What should I do with it all?

There are more US citizens in Iraq today than US military ... most are contractors paid with your tax dollars to NOT do what they say they will do (see rebuilding schools in Iraq) ... some are Mercenaries, also paid by your tax dollars to play wild west shoot em up

as the media junket prepares us for an invasion of Iran, a country involved in some type of civil war for the last 1300 years ... will the American people once again cave to 'stay the course' and harsh treatment to those perceived as enemies?

for what its worth ...

How can America allow our troops to be treated as if they are criminals? Did you know that there are restaurants who will not serve the military because they don't support the war. There are Americans who will spit on AMERICAN soldiers just cause they don't like what is going on in Iraq. Is it just me who is ashamed to hear of such things?

China has been buying Russian fighter planes, submarines, and warships. The Chinese military has about 2000 tanks and possess nuclear weapons. Type 094 nuclear submarine was launched in 2004 equipped with JL-2 nuclear missile (range 8000 km) capable of striking the east coast of the US. Currently, China is planning to build a aircraft carrier and is developing the J-XX stealth fighter which is comparable to the F-22 and said to be superior to the F-35. If Taiwan leaders declare independence from China, the the PLA military would use military force against a democratic Taiwan. Then the US would go to war to defend Taiwan against a larger Chinese army with over 2,000 tanks. well, the US military could use its navy to block Chinese warships from entering Taiwan, but it will be too late. In addtion to warships, China has Russian designed missiles capable to striking Us warships. These missiles can reachmach 2.5 speed and hit Us aegis warships and carrier groups.

I'm a homeschooler, so I don't have a highschool diploma. But I want to join the marines, I'm told you have to have a diploma to join. I'm smart, I just don't have the paper to prove it. Do I stand a chance in hell of getting in without the diploma?

The US would never kill anyone because the US is so good. It's just a coincidence that the Iraqis are dying at a great rate while the Americans are helping them. It's just a coincidence that the "insurgents" are killing Iraqis while the "most powerful nation on earth" is RIGHT THERE. Americans can never be bad.

A friend of mine recently made the claim that at the outset of the Iraq war hundreds of US attack helicopters deliberately set about performing a massacre of Iraqi civilians in a concerted city-wide campaign in Baghdad.
Now, I told him that this was ridiculous and at the start aerial bombardment and artillery strikes were performed against military installations. Is this not true?
Also, I haven't heard one peep about that alleged incident, and if it did happen, do you imagine that we'd ever hear the end of it?
yes, there was tragic deaths of innocent civilians but every effort was made to minimize these.
But he claims a deliberate slaughter by hundreds of US helicopters against innocents?!

Please just reassure me that I'm not a madman and that my friend has been grossly misinformed.

I pressed him for proof because he said this was shown on CNN and in the newspapers, but he baulked and starting pressing me to prove that it DIDN'T happen!?

How does one argue with this guy?

My brother is joining the army and at the physical they said he was color-blind. He wanted to work on helicopter electrical systems, but now they say he can't because of the color-blindness. (BTW: He can see green and red but not some of the other colors) Why can't he still do what he had planned? What will he end up doing?

I am really worried about him now, so any info would help. Thanks.

As background, I served four years in the military. I love my country. I am also (by nature, and by the military's nuture), a stickler for rules and laws.
Amendment 1: Freedom of speech -- does not apply.
Regardless of job status (off duty, representing yourself, not the military) one isn't at ease to speak freely.
Amendment 2: The Right to Bear Arms -- many don't know that this is specifically for the purpose of forming a militia if the government becomes corrupt. Military is specifically prohibited from this...
Amendment 3: Quartering of Soldiers: Okay, you've got me.
Amendment 4: Search and Seizure: "Probable cause"??? HAHAHA. Probable cause is when your superior says that the floor you live on actually has trash in the trash cans.
Amendment 5: Ok, we might get this one.
Amendment 6: Right to Speedy Trial -- I am not going to go there. No US Citizen gets this. The military isn't special here.
I could go on, but these are the basics. Please tell me why this is?
