They are coming up short on all recruting goals. We are lacking 10,000-20,000+ troops yet certain people want in but they wont let them. I will use myself for example, I am overweight by the Army's stanards. I told them well it is kind of a win win situation, you all get another solider and you all help me lose the weight. Yet they turned me away. Why wont the Army loosen its requirments to allow more people to join? I am an ex-football player (HS-College) I am a big guy yet very athletic.

Why is this ok? I don't think it's right to call any military soldier that, no matter what he thinks. I have a friend in Iraq right now and I think it's disrespectful.

I am boycotting Rush Limbaugh the drug addict!

I'm 20 years old and in the Air Force and i just started a thrift saving plan (L Fund). For those of you that have TSP, is it actually any good? I mean, it's like a 401k but the main reason why i created an account was because i heard TSP would match 5% of your contribution. I later found out that, that was for civilian government employee only, not military members. I also have a Roth IRA with $10,000 saved up. So, should i stop contributing to TSP and put more money into my Roth IRA? Or still invest in TSP??

Soldiers don't declare war presidents do! If it is about protesting the war, protest at the white house. Don't disrespect your fellow americans. How would you like your funeral to be attacked by protestors who believe in something you had no control over? Have you ever heard a soldier say I love fighting over in Iraq and being away from my family for 2+ years. I dont think so! If you've ever protested at a soldiers funeral you should be banished from this country, you obviously don't deserve to live in a free country that was founded upon bloodshed by soldiers for the freedom rights you get in this country.

On Fox News channel there was an article on the recitation that is sometimes quoted when at a military funeral, they fold the flag, each fold is supposed to represent something.

The Fox site didn't have it all posted, but I would like to know what the entire thing is. Nothing has come up in my web searches.

Any help here would be appreciated.

I am doing this in my class. I thought I would see if I could find what it means, and then challenge the students to do the same.

I think that if one cannot afford college, either entering the job market or joining the military are both options. What do you think? Why would a rich white kid from Orange County join the Army?

I'm thinking about the airforce. After 22 yrs this new doctor who tested me for allergies said I have asthma. I do not have asthma attacks. It's not serious. I do not use my inhaler. The same doctor discovered a heart murmur. I don't think my asthma is a problem. Will this disqualify me. Should i tell the airforce about this or have their doctors make the assessment?

Jury awards father $11M in funeral case By ALEX DOMINGUEZ, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 4 minutes ago

BALTIMORE - A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.

The jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress.

Snyder's attorney, Craig Trebilcock, had urged jurors to determine an amount "that says don't do this in Maryland again. Do not bring your circus of hate to Maryland again."

Church members routinely picket funerals of military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, carrying signs such as "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "God hates fags."

A number of states have passed laws regarding funeral protests, and Congress has passed a law prohibiting such protests at federal cemeteries. But the Maryland lawsuit is believed to be the first filed by the family of a fallen serviceman.

The church and three of its leaders — the Rev. Fred Phelps and his two daughters, Shirley Phelps-Roper and Rebecca Phelps-Davis, 46 — were found liable for invasion of privacy and intent to inflict emotional distress.

Even the size of the award for compensating damages "far exceeds the net worth of the defendants," according to financial statements filed with the court, U.S. District Judge Richard Bennett noted.

Snyder claimed the protests intruded upon what should have been a private ceremony and sullied his memory of the event.

The church members testified they are following their religious beliefs by spreading the message that soldiers are dying because the nation is too tolerant of homosexuality.

Their attorneys maintained in closing arguments Tuesday that the burial was a public event and that even abhorrent points of view are protected by the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech and religion.

Earlier, church members staged a demonstration outside the federal courthouse. Church founder Fred Phelps held a sign reading "God is your enemy," while Shirley Phelps-Roper stood on an American flag and carried a sign that read "God hates fag enablers." Members of the group sang "God Hates America" to the tune of "God Bless America."

Snyder sobbed when he heard the verdict, while members of the church greeted the news with tightlipped smiles.

SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY, *PLEASE*. If all I get is a bunch of Bush-bashing, "we should get rid of the military," or something similar, then I'll give you a thumbs down.

As far as I know, the SSGN conversion involves taking a ballistic missile submarine and converting the system to fire non-nuclear missiles. If I'm wrong, please correct me accordingly.

Why is this conversion being done? Is the Navy eliminating it's vessels capable of launching nukes? I understand the need for conventional missiles as well, but does this mean that the country is abandoning it's nuclear weapons at sea?

You can be semi-technical if you want. I have an intermediate understanding of engineering and computer-related terminology and applications.
