My friend said my paper sucked and I just wanted to know what you think.

Charles Lindberg, the last survivor from the first flag- raising over Iwo Jima during World War Two, died last Sunday at the age of 86.
The first flag-raising included Corporal Charles Lindberg, Platoon Sergeant Ernest Thomas Jr., Sergeant Henry O. Hank, and Private First Class James Michels.
Two of the first flag-raisers were killed during battle no more than eight days after Iwo Jima.
Although Charles was not killed, he was shot in the arm by a Japanese sniper on March 1, 1945. Lindberg was immediately evacuated from the island to recuperate.
After being honorably discharged from the army, Charles moved back to his home in Grand Forks, ND, where he married, then moved to Richfield, MN. Charles raised two daughters and three sons; and worked as an electrician until he retired.
He often spoke to his children’s schools and shared his war memories. In 1995, Charles returned to the island of Iwo Jima for the 50th anniversary of the legendary battle.
The nation bid yet another war hero farewell at Lindberg’s memorial service on June 29th, he was laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Thundering jets and some vintage World War Two planes flew overhead as many people said it was deserved. During the ceremony Lindberg’s daughter, Diane Steiger said a few words, “The angels needn’t worry tonight, another Marine has arrived. Our hero has gone home, the heavens are safer tonight.”

Also, my friend's boyfriend is being deployed as well. She would like to make him a CD with songs that are meaningful. She doesn't want really mushy love songs, but ones that will let him know how much she cares and that she wants him to come home safe from Iraq. any suggestions would be helpful.
Also, if you have served in Iraq I would like to express my sincere gratitude for you putting your life on the line to protect all of us. Could you share with me any ideas for putting together great care packages for our friends? What did you not have that would have been nice to get in a box from home? so far we've been told plenty of baby wipes, beef jerkey and psp movies....anything else? thank you for your suggestions!

I was just wondering if there were private memorials like this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nellvixen/677349793/ where you live. I drove past this and was so touched that these people cared so much they are using their private land as a memorial and updating as more soldiers pass away each day. What do you guys think?

I've seen multiple jungle military figures (particularly in Vietnam and on SEALs) wear do-rags or something on their head. Do they have a specific name? Are they in use?

Here are some pics:

I've seen more pics just can't locate them. Thanks!

These questions are somewhat related. First, why didn't America just stay focused on the Pacific theater? Germany didn't bomb pearl harbor, nor did Italy, so that's a poor allocation of military resources. And why didn't Germany, after declaring war on the US bomb the country with air raids? It had worked for them before, so that confuses me. And why did Canada get involved in the war so early, rather than show their independence from the UK? They didn't have a real reason to fight. Well, the allies won, which is all that matters, but still I can't think of great answers for these questions.

One instance that my husband described to me made me chuckle, because I could not believe how ludicrous it was. From my understanding, the United States invaded Iraq to “free the Iraqi people” and look for “weapons of mass destruction.” Well, my husband is not doing either. He is weeding the grounds of Iraq, and not out of punishment, but because his leaders feel it’s appropriate. The United States is sending thousands of troops overseas, thousands are dying and the troops are weeding? Clearly there is something wrong with this picture.

it is no longer a question of whether the U.S. can stabalize iraq, they cannot. question:why the Hell are you still there?why are you still dying for a war you cannot win?is there any of you who when they go to sleep at night you say to yourself, yeah were winning this thing?be truthful with yourselves. go home.

Mu husband is in Iraq with the USMC and he is overseen by a marine convicted of a DUI with no chance of promotion. How I see it, if the person in charge can’t follow the rules, then he shouldn’t be in a position of power because he lacks the ability to lead by example. In addition, he may be resentful, if this person has no chance of promotion because of the DUI, he is going to try to ensure that no one gets ahead of him in rank by giving everyone average assessment scores so they don’t get promoted or in a position of power to overrule him.

Two U.S. soldiers have been charged with the premeditated murders of three innocent Iraqis killed in three separate incidents between April and June of this year, according to a U.S. military statement.

In addition to the murder charges, the two enlisted men are accused of trying to cover up the crimes, committed in Iskandariya, about 25 miles south of Baghdad, by planting weapons next to the Iraqis' bodies, the military said. The soldiers stated they were doing this job in the name of the United States and wanted the war supporters to be proud of their work.
