This article states that a fundamentalist Kansas church pickets military funerals in the belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. How did they connect the war in Iraq with homosexuality?

Homophobia and hate are not based on reality or logic, therefore, any assumptions based on those things would have to reflect that.

More Christians turning people away from the message of Jesus. Disgusting. I think I will start protesting their funerals with signs saying "God hates hypocrites".

Because the leader of the church is a howling idiot who believes that all the evils that are befalling the United States are due to the fact that there are homosexuals living here and that the homosexuals are not being persecuted. Strange for a man that was once involved in the Civil Rights movement.

they believe that all the nations woes are caused by this country tolerating homosexuality. And since Americans are dieing it has to be because they don't persecute or expel Homosexuals.

these people are just demented and hate filled.

They started gaining prominence during the Mathew Shepard funeral and trial.

Honestly they only use homosexuality as an excuse. The entire family is made up of lawyers, they travel from town to town protesting anything and connecting it to homosexuality. then when the town or city tries to block them they sue and settle out of court. they then use the winnings to go to the next town to protest.

These scum bags are the worst type of people. they attack then demand recompense for not being allowed to spread their hate.

I am a conservative and a person of faith and personally I find these people to be reprehensible and I hope they lose every penny they have.

The writer of the article has a case of rectal-cranial inversion.

The Phelps, Phelps, Phelps, and Phelps family cult/law firm is no more a church than is Scientology, nor is it any more fundamentalist than Jesse Jackson's extortion rackets.

These people are simply grifters, and it's unlikely the plaintiff will get a dime, and they'll spend years fighting appeals to even get that far. Still, the more time these jerkoffs spend in court, the less time they'll have to stand around with their "God hates fags" signs.

I fail to see a connection, but I wonder how the Kansas Church came up with such a scary conclusion.
On second thought, I really don't want to know, but I am just so glad that Kansas is so far away from California.

I was trying to figure the same thing out. But I'm glad that dad of a fallen soldier sued the church for 11 million dollars and won. I'm glad he won, the protestors deserved it. Now maybe those funeral protestors will stop disrespecting people's fallen loved ones.

There is no connection. Consider the source of the folks who say those things; the folks from the Westboro Baptist "Church" are some of the most twisted and illogical you will see in our society.

Kudos to the judge who ruled against them in the lawsuit -- maybe that will shut them up!!!!! :D

Fair question. The only connection I can see is the fact that everybody seems to speak English, yet the church doesn't seem to understand most of the words.

There is no connect and I am glad that somebody finally did something to the pathetic Fred Phelps and his idiotic daughters. I hope that the lawsuit bankrupts that awful "church" of his.

There is no connection. That is a completely absurd and pointless statement to make. Sadly, a lot of churches will make up just about anything to support their own viewpoints.
