No Free French 17 Pounder Armed Shermans in WW2. Almost every 17 pounder armed Sherman was British/Canadian/Polish. An American Battalion was working up with 17's but the war ended before they saw action.

The Brits put a 17-pounder on it and called it the Sherman Firefly. Google and you'll find plenty of information on it.

No, I far as I known all Sherman Firefly tanks (Shermans armed with a 17pdr) were in British units, though I have seen a photograph of a capture Firefly being used by German troops.
