the combination of a thick armor, agile chassis and powerfull main gun made the jagdpanther very deadly tank destroyer.
total number was about 400+ vehicles produced.

Like all German tank destroyers, this one had no turret and had to aim with the hull, only minor fire corrections could be made with the gun itself. this was a critical featrue in the tactics of attacking at long distances. The same was with the armor - thick and sloped front armor, weak rear. Not to mention the vulnerability from Jabo's - Allied fighter bombers.

you are confusing terms JagdPANTHER and JagdPANZER

JagdPANZER is a german equivalent for the tank destroyer class wile the JagdPANTHER is one specific type of a german Jadgpanzer, derived from the PzV Panther tank.

At long range they had the edge, but when a few Sherman got close enough they usually had only to put a few rounds in the rear to finish it, as seen by the example in the Imperial War Museum in London.

Moving them to and from Battle fronts was a pain because they were so wide, special narrow transport tracks had to be used to bring them into rail yards and onto rail cars, when off-loaded the procedure was reversed to put back the normal combat tracks before they could be deployed. Many bridges could not bear their weight further reducing their effectiveness.

A lot of countries used them (we called them tank destroyers) so they must have had some value but I think their main asset were that they were cheap and large numbers could be made fast. The Germans intermittently had the best tanks in the war with the very best probably being the "Panther" but their production was dwarfed by the Soviets that had sometimes better tanks and by the Americans with huge numbers of inferior ones.

Pretty good.

However, massive Allied air superiority sort of made all German tanks obsolete. What good is a tank if it's burning?
